Million Dollar Chess Tournament Makes First Move

Launching the Highest Stakes Open Tournament in History on October 9-13

Las Vegas, Nevada – The Millionaire Chess Open, a groundbreaking chess tournament offering the biggest prize fund in chess history for an Open event, will checkmate the competition October 9th at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

The very first event, which boasts a million dollars in prizes, is being billed as a game-changer for a sport that has been struggling to capitalize on its huge fan base of amateur players.

Is day trading worth it? It's a meaningless question but the banter in the thread is quite entertaining. What would happen to this site without its MVPs, dbparrot and NoDuhgee? It wouldn't surprise me if Baron has nightmares about such a prospect.

Some sad chess news: The Millionaire Chess tournament in October is in jeopardy. As of March 24, only 65 people have preregistered, with 1500 being needed by end of March to secure the event. A friend of mine who knows GM Ashley told me that the casino insisted on the early entrants in order to get the convention hall for free. Chess players are the biggest cheapskates I know. Most are broke, and it does get a bit tiring to keep picking up the tab at Denny's for the group that I meet. It was unrealistic to depend on so many to shell out $1000 far in advance of the tournament. Looks like another opportunity lost for US chess.
