Are options on futures (particularly interested in the equity index futures) eligible for the preferred 60/40 tax treatment? Based on this response to the same question, it appears that the answer is yes. Since options and futures (1256 contracts) are taxed at 60/40, you would think that options on futures contracts should be taxed at 60/40 of THAT gain. Chew on that!
That would make sense if the only way to trade a FOP was to be forced to also trade the future the option is based on.
