I am from Canada and want to deposit around 500 usd to IB canada. My bank charges 1.38850 to convert to US funds. While the current Pair rate is 1.36. Wouldn't it be much cheaper to just wire in Canadian funds to IB than buy the pair instead of asking my bank to convert the funds? I did that math and $500x1.38850 vs $500x 1.36= $14.25. So.... Method 1 I lose $14.25 from conversion loss. Method 2 I only lose $2 from exchange fee. Correct me if I am wrong here...
