It has been my experience that when you have a person on ignore, you cannot see their threads. The only exception to this is when you are looking at the forum view page, wherein you may see threads by someone on your ignore list in the short, abbreviated list of forum threads. If, by chance, someone who you have on ignore has posted a thread that is in this abbreviated list, you will see the thread. You can then click on the arrow to show the last post in that thread, and the thread will be displayed. It is my understanding that this is the only way to ever accidentally see a thread originated by someone on your ignore list. However, when in a specific forum page like the politics forum, for instance, any thread begun by someone on your ignore list will be invisible. Can Baron/Magna confirm this? Thank you!
If you place someone on Ignore then the following happens: If they start a thread (say, for instance, in the Politics forum), and you click that forum index then the thread will NOT show up in the listing. In the Main ET index page which displays all forums and their 5 most recently posted to threads, if the thread started by the Ignored person is one of those 5 then it WILL show up. But if you click it, while you can see (and post to) the thread, you cannot see any posts by the person you have on Ignore. Similarly, in the "Newest Threads" section at the top of the Main ET index page, if an Ignored person started a recent thread (non-Politics or ChitChat) it WILL show up there. But if you click it, while you can see (and post to) the thread, you cannot see any posts by the person you have on Ignore. In the New Posts section over on the right of the Main index page an Ignored person's posts will NOT show up. If someone else properly quotes an Ignored person (say, by clicking Reply at the bottom-right of their post) you will NOT see what the Ignored person said. In short, once you place someone on Ignore you cannot see anything they post unless someone improperly quotes them (ie, by simply copy/pasting what they said).
Instead of an ignore button in the Politics section just send them a free coupon for a box of tampons.
