One could just move their business to Florida, where it is legal to use deadly force to defend property.

‘No sympathy or empathy’: Gov. Newsom condemns retail theft rings, vows ‘exponential’ funding for problem

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday said he had “no sympathy or empathy” for people involved in recent organized retail thefts in the San Francisco Bay Area that have made national headlines.

He said he planned to include an “exponential level of support” in his upcoming budget to help cities address retail theft rings and other quality of life issues.

But Newsom did not detail what he planned to propose and a spokesperson for the governor told KCRA 3 that the office did not have new numbers to share yet.

Newsom has contracted a company that will install these types of laser defense systems that will activate automatically at the store entrance when theft is detected.

    Another day, another mob

    • The San Francisco Bay Area faced a third consecutive day of brazen shoplifting on Sunday
    • A group of about 40 to 50 teenage looters wielding hammers smashed glass cases at a Hayward jewelry store and ran off with an unknown amount of goods at around 5.30pm Sunday
    • The suspects also reportedly ran into other stores in the Southland Mall and walked away with clothes and shoes, though police do not know how many items were stolen
    • Just about an hour later, in San Jose, a group of suspects entered a Lululemon store in the outdoor mall at Santana Row and took an unknown amount of merchandise before they fled the scene
    • The thefts come one day after a group of 80 brazen shoplifters entered a Nordstrom in nearby Walnut Creek
    • Three people were arrested in that incident, in which three employees were injured
    • And on Friday, a Luis Vuitton store in San Francisco's Union Square was targeted and ransacked by a group of more than a dozen thieves
    • Residents in the business owners in the area cite a 2014 law that downgraded the theft of property less than $950 in value from a felony charge to a misdemeanor for the rise in thefts
    • They also blame woke San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin for a rise in crime - he now faces a recall election amid fury over his soft-on-crime stance

    • A Home Depot in California was robbed on Friday night, authorities said.
    • The suspects entered the store and stole hundreds worth of tools before fleeing the scene.
    • “They had the sledgehammers ready to hit people who were trying to stop them,” an employee told KTLA.

Authorities in California are looking for a group of suspects who ransacked a Home Depot on Friday night, in one of the latest smash-and-grab robberies in the state.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, just after 7:30 p.m., the group went into the Lakewood establishment and stole an estimated $US400 ($AU562) worth of tools including sledgehammers and crowbars.

The suspects then fled the scene in a red Mercedes Benz “with severe damage to the front of the vehicle,” police said.

As KTLA reported, an employee said that he saw at least 18 suspects in the store.

“They had the sledgehammers ready to hit people who were trying to stop them,” Luis Romo told the outlet.

A wave of smash-and-grabs has been on the rise with multiple reports coming out of California throughout the holiday season. Last weekend, various luxury stores, cannabis dispensaries, and pharmacies were hit by a group of robbers in the Bay Area.

The crime sprees have been also been occurring in other states. In Chicago, a group of 14 suspects stole about $US120,000 ($AU168,468) of merchandise from a Louis Vuitton store last week. Surveillance video shows the robbers running into the store and clearing it out within minutes. Other retailers in the city’s Wicker Park neighborhood were targeted on Black Friday. North Face, Footlocker, and Boost Mobile were all hit within an hour.

A crime expert previously told Insider that videos of the incidents on TV could potentially inspire copycats.

“The most powerful images are watching those videos,” Arizona State University’s Scott Decker said. . “It may be that someone who is an offender who … sees it on TV and says, ‘Hey, the cops in my city aren’t that sophisticated,’ or ‘We could get away with one if we just go in real quickly and get out quickly.'”

  10. This kind of shiite is really fcked up. Spitting in the face of everyone who works for what they want. Time for a less "woke" law enforcement and judicial system...
