  4. I have no problem with comedians trashing trump or his entourage. Quite a few of the Saturday Night Live skits are funnier than hell, regardless of what your political orientation is. But this guy just isn't funny and is boring as hell.

I watched five minutes of it and in that section he said "most of the immigrants are in fact from central america now "for whom there is a legal asylum process."

First of all, the bit about most being from central america now is definitely true. However, the asylum piece is not. I suppose it is technically true that the process is there to request it but a suggestion that they are entitled to it under the circumstances or that the asylum treaty covers their entry into the United States is a crock. Immigrants who are requesting asylum status because their lives are in danger if the return must request asylum in the first country that they enter where their lives are not being threatened by people specficially targetting them. That would be and is Mexico for the Central Americans. If they want to go to the United States- and most do- because life is better here and Mexico is a shiite-hole then they become "economic refugees" rather "asylum seekers" under international law an economic refugees have no special rights or entitlements. Some Mexicans qualify as asylum seekers because the government or the cartels want to specifically kill them. Just the fact that it is dangerous for everyone is not enough to qualify. Everyone illegal crossing into the US is trained now to request asylum status even though they know they will not qualify. They do that because it entitles them to be detained and then the courts or hearing officer releases them back into the community to await their hearing and the they are not seen again until they commit a crime or something. If they dont request asylum, the border patrol can just put them on a bus and drive the back to mexico.

Anyway, that little game has ended or ends moreso each day, and one of the things that Mexico has abruptly found out is that they are now the DESTINATION for million of illegals rather than just a chance to rape the women, shake down the families for cash and line the pockets of coyotes and them pass the through to the United States. That is not supposed to be how the game is played but Trump did not get the memo.

So a great big FU to John Oliver for not being funny and a bonus FU for being wrong on the facts, and a couple more general FU's for the inevitable bullshiite that was in the rest of the video that I did not watch. Man, that guy is boring. When Saturday Night Live did those Sarah Palin skits or when they trashed Sean Spicer that was funnier than shiite, especially when he was walking around bonking people with the podium.

Canada isn't "America Junior"; we have a national identity and frankly toughness that is at a minimum similar to what Americans have; traditional ties are more to the UK then the US. There are some key differences in our belief system compared to the US. Some of those differences are increasing as the US goes through it's Trump era. Most recent polls show that 52% of Canadians view the US unfavorably as a nation; this number has been trending up the last few years.

We are increasingly departing from our alliances with the US and support of your policies and increasing our joint projects with Europe and Asia. While there is a massive trade relationship with the US that stems from some mutual interests and geography, this relationship is more of a shared benefit that is understood depends on sensible people being in government, and Trump isn't sensible. America seems to be divided on Canada; the corporate world loves us and embraces the partnership; grassroots Americans tend to be ignorant or even displeased about Canada and lump us in with all the worldwide threats that they blame the US economic decline on.

Americans may think that the "muslim occupation of Canada" is a thing, but that's actually a pretty silly concept in your head. It's one of the smaller demographics in our immigrants. Toronto has large communities of European ( e.g. Italian ) and UK background people, with increasing immigration from several Asian countries ( many of whom are Christian not Muslim ) and various Russian republics ( plus some from Israel ). It's a nice mix, and Muslims are welcome.

The existence of Muslims in Canada seems to be more an overdone or irrational fear of Americans not Canadians. And you don't get to tell us who we accept in our country. There are some Canadians that fear the Asian immigration trend, but that trend is improving our country not hurting it. So you get families like mine that combine a UK and Asian background and produce brilliant offspring, some of which are recruited by your best US based corporations.

  8. Oh, it's clear that you and your morally superior Boy Scout Prime Minister do not hesitate to get uppity with Americans and other countries who are struggling with illegal immigration- as though he is the Dalai Llama and Canada is the Tibet of the Tundra. Meanwhile- just as you said- you folks will decide who you accept and who you do not.

Did you ever stop to think why Canada is huge - as is the United States- but our population is also huge while yours is the size of just one of our large states? Maybe it is because we accept and have accepted a massive number of immigrants -legal and illegal- over the years while you morally superior types cherry-picked who passed your sniff test. The Europeans, Americans, South American countries etc do not have the luxury of living in your cloistered environment.

Canada doesn't concern itself with US immigration at all. We do take notice when you pursue unwise military actions, when you pollute the environment, and when you try to mess with fair trade across the border. In fact, since Trump was elected, Canada has adopted a mostly hands off detached view of the US and we just hope you get your shit together eventually.

I'm not sure why you are obsessed with population size. Toronto is basically the same size as Chicago. You can claim that makes them similar, but not really.

  10. Actually, you and Canadians in general are obsessed with comparing Canada to the United States. My point is that when you do that you have to keep in mind that you are comparing a full sized, world power country to something that is just the size of one of our states. As you would say but forget "similar, but not really." So you all think you are so lefty and welcoming and progressive compared to the United States. Okay well compare Canada to just California which is in your league population size. Not looking so lefty compared to the U.S now are you?
And if you were conservative we could come up with some more conservative areas too. That's because we are a diverse society and your population has remained small because you talk this welcoming and immigration talk but it is just a small fraction of the American experience.

Cloistered. And you did say that your daughter works for an American company based in California. Uh huh. As I said, having the United States on your southern border is your economic development plan even though Canadians spend 90% of their time trying to figure out how and if they are different from Americans. You would not have to think so hard if Mexico was on your southern border.

You are welcome. No need to thank us.
