Wasn't long ago I suggested Musk wasn't going to please either spectrum of the political landscape, and suggested he would find a way for Twitter to force individuals to show who they are. Speech is only free when posters are held accountable for what they write. I'm very pleased with what he is doing. https://www.theverge.com/2022/10/30...ification-elon-musk-blue-monthly-subscription
fucking lol; good luck charging 20/month for shit posting. Who knew "freedom of speech" had a steep price tag
My initial thought. But it turns out $20 per month only if a user wants to keep his acc verified (?) $240 ain't much per year. On the other hand it could be donated to child day care centers or smthn.
$240 a year is perfect. Shit talking will come to an abrupt stop and those willing to pay will get some business tax exemption anyway. Musk will demonstrate to advertisers that Twitter will maintain the same viewership less the 30% spam.
Twitter already has an existing paid "Twitter Blue" program which allows ad-free browsing plus some other features. The paid "Blue Verification" program to keep your blue verified account check mark in place is a new program. However 80% of Twitter users will not pay for a verified check mark on Twitter -- a poll that even Musk commented on. Musk is still moving forward with this unwanted feature however - demanding that the engineering team put it in place in a few mere days by November 7th or be terminated. This is at the same time Musk is denying that he is terminating a large number of employees to avoid a November 1st payout --- of course it appears that he is just changing the payout date. At the same time --- many prominent individuals and celebrities are bailing on Twitter as a social networking platform and closing their accounts.
That's fine. Twitter is a business and its customers are advertisers. Musk needs to provide them with a clearly identified consumer base, which he should be able to provide through his payment system. What he will prevent is junk, scams and other nonsense tweets that is said to represent at least 30% of user base. Advertisers will clearly appreciate a healthier environment and I think many who leave today will return when they realize that Musk isn't interested in letting Twitter run wild. Will he fire half of Twitter employees? Perhaps, at least anyone who isn't on board with his plan and I personally don't have an ethical issue with that. He put his money where his mouth is, and now is time for him to do what he wants. Something tells me he will succeed, meaning he will turn a profit and will go public within 3 years.
As a follow-up -- it appears that Musk is letting go 25% of Twitter employees in the first round of layoffs. Twitter to lay off 25% of workforce in first round of job cuts - Washington Post https://www.reuters.com/technology/...st-round-job-cuts-washington-post-2022-10-31/
eh...upon further reading, this does nothing to stop spam or shit talking. You got means? You can get verified. You're a troll/shittalker? You can continue to post free of charge. It's basically a wealth tax
