  1. From the horses mouth... seen on Managing Asia interview today...

When the US government, Fed, and Treasury... destroy the US currency and bankrupt the US populace, Chinese companies will be here to buy assets on the cheap.

How's THAT for a business plan...

  2. Just curious, but didn't the Japanese try this in the 80's?

  3. Not exactly.

The $USD was high if I recall and, RE prices were sky high from a severe bout of inflation.

The Japanese who bought prime RE in NY ended bailing with a 70% loss, including what they lost on the currency.

  4. The Dollar collapsed 50% in the 80s.

  5. That's what I thought, Mak. And as a result, the Japanese thought they could get all this real estate in California at a good price. Didn't work out so hot for them.

  6. The 80s were full of doom and gloom of the "Japanese taking over" and "buying up America". Watch Bladerunner for a sample (a movie shot in the 80s), the L.A. of 2020 there is full of Japanese language billboards.

  7. I don't think that's the same as this time, and the Japanese paid a high price everywhere... now RE is down and the $USD will be down when the Chinese are ready to scoop up bargains.
