A colleague asked me the other day if I had heard of anyone who had set up and sustained themselves (ie taken some kind of draw) and had grown a $100k initial investment pot into a significant fund. We have all read the story of the guy who turned $10k into $10MM but is a $100k really enough to have any chance of supporting a f/t trader?

Good initial capital is important but due to leverage not as important as having a solid frequent edge.

Say you are a successful trader- which is unlikely in the first few years- and you can make 30 or 40% profit on your capital. That means you are living almost subsistence lifestyle and ypur capital won't be increasing.

So 100, 000 is enough to trade but you should still keep your dayjob . Imho

It's possible to generate hundreds of thousands annually from $100K, or turn accounts of less than $100K into a million or several million in just a few years . Look up Lescor, EricP, Neke, and Szeven here at ET.

    It's very improbable, though.

I've got nearing 6K and I've dropped the business to 2 days weeks and Sundays if need be I guess, I plan and should be able to pay myself a wage and grow it pretty quickly to say 50K area, don't see a need for more than that at the moment as that's all the $$'s I'll need to trade at $100 per pip, lets not get greedy LOL

It's taken YEARS to get this far, if I dropped 100K into an account it would of went the same was as my first $300, ie very quickly, moving SL's and averaging down till a big move crushes me.

Yes it's possible, with enough time and experience, easy no, not ever, put 2K of that 100K at risk and top up as required until your making money, good money then role over 20K more maybe.

It's taken years to get your account to $6k and u think u will be able to get to $50k quickly? What am I missing here ?

  9. Why not take $10--25k and join a reputable prop firm who will allow you to trade with millions and teach you working edge. Any other way is just plain stupid for a start up.

    surf
Ps. Tim sykes did it on his own but he had a unique edge.

When I'm trading well and I get motoring, I make a lot of $$$'s very quickly :)

Haven't been taking to to seriously until recently, started ( well again ) with $700 16months ago, I've been spending it aswell, 3K recently and I pulled in $828 Wednesday and Thursday about 5 hours in total.

It takes time to master, but you'll be surprised how much you can make day trading, when cracked.
