  1. 116 House members say Obama needs approval from Congress on Syria
By Rebecca Shabad - 08/28/13 03:23 PM ET

More than 100 lawmakers, including 18 Democrats, have signed a letter that says President Obama would violate the Constitution by striking Syria without first getting authorization from Congress.

A total of 116 lawmakers had signed the letter as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, highlighting bipartisan interest and growing momentum in ensuring a role for Congress in any decision to use force in Syria.

“Engaging our military in Syria when no direct threat to the United States exists and without prior congressional authorization would violate the separation of powers that is clearly delineated in the Constitution,” states the letter, spearheaded by Rep. Scott Rigell (R-Va.).

Ahh, but as Piggybank pointed out, if Obama can define the situation as a credible threat to the US, as Bush did for Iraq, then Obama doesn't need to get congressional approval.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just enjoying the use of your team's arguments.

  3. Constitution?

He's a black person. All former rules are nullified under penalty of being labeled a racist.

  7. wow, talk about twisting my words. I said that Bush received Congressional authorization (which he DID) after making his case that iraq was a threat to the US. facts. Obama hasn't made a case that syria is a threat to us nor has he received Congressional approval. do u see the difference?

Sadly, The iraq war overwhelmingly passed congress, nice try.

Its not as if obama cant find enough bozos to go along with the syrian war too so why does he by pass congress? The reason why is because he doesnt want to put any pressure on the war mongering democrats who would no doubt go along with it as they pretend to be anti war.

We wanted a base in Iraq, no one really believed it was a threat to us. But, you're right, it did pass Congress, sadly.

  10. Bush didn't need it, just like Obama doesn't either.

Bush was a man of conviction, and if he decided it was the right thing to do, he would have moved without approval.

That doesn't automatically qualify him as right, but he had a backbone.

So does Obama. He'll try to do the right thing, which is probably to give them a late night strike, but he needs no approval.

If a man has to wait for dozens of elected politicians to decide what he can do, he's not a man.
