I was looking to see if @S2007S had started a thread on this, but he hasn't yet so I will start one for him : Has the AI hype scam of fleecing investors for $Billions, even $100s of Billions ($500 billion Star Gate anyone), been exposed? To train its V3 model, DeepSeek used a cluster of just 2,000 Nvidia chips “compared with tens of thousands of chips for training models of similar size,” noted the Journal. DeepSeek said it trained its latest models for $5.6 million far less than the $100 million to $1 billion range Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei cited in 2024 as the cost to train its models. In other words, Sam Altman's car cost more than it cost to train Deepseek. https://www.forbes.com/sites/peterc...s-deepseeks-amazing-ai-model-disrupts-openai/
Reminds me of "We Have No Moat, And Neither Does OpenAI": https://semianalysis.com/2023/05/04/google-we-have-no-moat-and-neither/
I'm looking at this whole weekend It looks like US market may collapse Everything AI related in a huge danger of dramatic repricing. Open AI is a complete toast. Trump looks complete idiot with that Stargate announcement 3days ago
I don't think the US Govt was funding any of that $500 billion. I read Softbank is putting up $10 billion and the Microsoft CEO said he was 'Good for $80 billion'
Nothing new from scratch. I heard it is just a copy and paste model of the better AI models and less good. There was then a discussion how the US can protect their AI models better so Chinese cannot steal its interlectual property. But it is still a lot open source available and it was said later there will be a point where it is closed and much more monetarized then now from USA side. That is also nothing new that Chinese steal property and then do a cheap copy of that, offering it as their own for dirt cheap worldwide. That is why also there is US to China trade conflict. It is just the tip of on an iceberg this Deepseek from China.
AI scam exposed by DeepSeek or DeepSeek scam exposed by AI Anyway, it doesn't matter. We just buy low scam sell high scam sell high scam buy low scam
Im sure it will lead to bigger things, but it seems to show that those future bigger things can be done on a sensible budget, rather than waste 100s of $Billions in order to justify huge valuations..
