Buttigieg Spent $80 Billion On DEI, Half DOT's Budget, Instead Of Upgrading Air Traffic Control: Report

While the Trump administration has faced criticism for air traffic control outages and errors over the last year, recent developments suggest the current crisis may actually be rooted in the Biden administration (big surprise, we know...)

That's because under Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, systemic issues with outdated infrastructure, controller shortages, and mounting flight delays worsened—even as the Department of Transportation (DOT) diverted massive resources toward diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, according to a new report by the NY Post.

During his tenure, Buttigieg allegedly showed little interest in modernizing ATC systems. “He was definitely pushing an agenda,” said one industry official. “Little to no interest” was given to fixing the aging infrastructure, and “definitely zero action” was taken, they added.

If ipatent's family or care worker reads this, please do better than dump him at the computer, he has no filters for junk information.

Also, why wait for any inheritance, watches or whatever cash in his wallet? Old racist guys like this already living in god's waiting room knock themselves off all the time. Maybe he gets it in his head to change a bulb if you get me?

Up to you but really, don't worry about us, sure we may miss his broken record a while but time passes and things change.

    It's a NY Post story.

You know its bullshit. Nobody needs to look at it to know its bullshit.

Booty judge put DEI requirements in just about everything the department did, not hard to imagine half the budget was contaminated.

Perhaps it might balance the brain damage leading to functional improvement?

Honestly I don't know why he chooses not to filter out rubbish. Now in my early 50s and aware that I’m on the downhill slope, I still can't imagine, though I know it may happen, losing my objective senses or regressing to a childlike state. Perhaps it’s because even as a child, I had little interest in anything that didn’t have logical consistency. I figured out Santa very young.

Wisdom ≠ Immunity... Many older adults retain excellent reasoning abilities but may misplace trust or fail to detect manipulation even when intellectually capable.

Experience helps, but the brain's filter for deception weakens.

While some reports claim DOT under Buttigieg approved over $80 billion in DEI-related grants, that figure appears to include broad infrastructure programs, not internal agency operations, and isn’t verified through budget documents. Moreover, air traffic control and FAA modernization efforts are funded separately, and DOT officials maintain that aviation safety was not sacrificed. Industry statistics show that only a small fraction of flight delays or cancellations stemmed from FAA system failures. Therefore, the claim that Buttigieg "spent half of DOT’s budget on DEI instead of upgrading air traffic control" is misleading and lacks supporting documentation.

Computer's check on that expands it usefully:

"The statement you provided is largely clear and accurate, and it effectively debunks the misleading claim. Here's a breakdown of why, supported by the search results:
    1. "While some reports claim DOT under Buttigieg approved over $80 billion in DEI-related grants, that figure appears to include broad infrastructure programs—not internal agency operations—and isn’t verified through budget documents."
    * Accuracy: This is accurate. Some reports indeed cite an $80 billion figure for DEI-related grants under Buttigieg's DOT. However, the context is crucial. The search results show that initiatives like "Justice40" are cited as allocating half of $150 billion in infrastructure investments to assist "disadvantaged communities," which falls under a broad infrastructure program. This indicates that a significant portion of what is labeled "DEI-related grants" is actually large-scale infrastructure spending with an equity focus, not just internal agency DEI operations.
    * Verification: The statement correctly points out the lack of direct verification through explicit "DEI budget documents" in the same way one might find a budget line item solely for internal DEI initiatives. The funds are often integrated into broader infrastructure investment goals.
    2. "Moreover, air traffic control and FAA modernization efforts are funded separately..."
    * Accuracy: This is accurate. The FAA's modernization efforts and air traffic control are primarily funded through the Airport and Airway Trust Fund (AATF). This fund is supported by excise taxes on passenger tickets, air cargo, and aviation fuel. While the General Fund and supplemental congressional acts also contribute, the AATF is the primary source. This funding mechanism is distinct from the broader DOT grant programs that may have DEI components.
    3. "...and DOT officials maintain that aviation safety was not sacrificed."
    * Accuracy: This aligns with public statements from DOT officials. While the search results show criticism regarding FAA staffing levels (a long-standing issue predating Buttigieg's tenure), there's no direct evidence or official statement indicating that aviation safety was intentionally "sacrificed" due to DEI spending. The argument being made is usually an implication by critics rather than a direct claim by officials.
    4. "Industry statistics show that only a small fraction of flight delays or cancellations stemmed from FAA system failures."
    * Accuracy: This is accurate. The FAA categorizes delays, and while "NAS Delay" (National Airspace System delay, which includes air traffic control) is a factor, other significant causes include "Carrier Delay" (within airline control, like maintenance or crew issues), "Late Arrival Delay" (ripple effects), and "Weather Delay." The claim that the FAA system is the primary cause of widespread delays is generally unsupported by comprehensive industry data, which often points to airline operational issues and weather as major contributors.
    5. "Therefore, the claim that Buttigieg 'spent half of DOT’s budget on DEI instead of upgrading air traffic control' is misleading and lacks supporting documentation."
    * Clarity and Accuracy: This is a clear and accurate conclusion based on the preceding points. The "half of DOT's budget on DEI" figure is misleading because:
    * The "DEI-related grants" largely refer to broad infrastructure investments with an equity lens, not solely internal DEI programs.
    * FAA modernization and air traffic control are funded through a separate, dedicated trust fund, not directly from the general DOT budget that DEI-focused infrastructure grants would draw from.
    * The connection between "DEI spending" and a direct sacrifice of aviation safety or air traffic control upgrades is not substantiated by evidence.
In summary, your statement is well-reasoned, uses strong qualifying language ("appears to include," "isn't verified," "maintain that," "only a small fraction"), and effectively counters a potentially inflammatory and unsubstantiated claim by providing important contextual details about funding mechanisms and the nature of "DEI-related grants" in the infrastructure sector.

What's the difference? The computer is admitting the figure is accurate.

No that's not an accurate thing to say.

The $80 billion figure isn’t for internal “DEI programs” like hiring quotas or trainings, it’s the cost of large-scale infrastructure grants (like bridges, public transport, clean energy) with an equity focus. Calling that “DEI spending” is like calling the Interstate Highway System a diversity program just because it improved access for underserved communities.
