I kid you not...True stories. Yesterday I was making a crockpot stew...Had a lot of the ingredients for it. I went to the local market (yeah, it was local with higher prices)...The store is still close in prices with other chain type markets. I picked up a 1/2 pound sirloin for $3.00...About 6 dollars a pound. That didn't bother me. I wanted a purple cabbage...It was $5.00!! I thought...Well, just a freak issue. Whatever... Today my brother picked me up this afternoon. We went to McDonald's for a soft serve ice cream cone each. No big deal. It was more for talking about old times...Shooting the breeze, rather than the food. This is two in the afternoon on a Sunday...Maybe quit (it was very quit)...Scarry quit!! One person there eating (medium size college town). Others came in later...Only a couple cars in the drive thru. This McDonald's is one of those $20. an hour employees, you have heard so much about. As we were walking out, I looked at the menu. Just in passing, I asked how much was a Big Mac...Something most can relate to. Just to gage other things in society. $6.69...I don't know if this included tax!! Just the Mac..Not a meal. I'll be watching inflation closely here in CA for the next few days... See if this was a blip, or a full blown issue...
I live in the boring (and fairly cheap [for California]) Central Valley (Sacramento to Bakersfield). The further away from the coast, the more conservative it gets in CA, OR, and WA.
Quick update... I went to the local Popeye's today. Grabbed a regular chicken sandwich (I usually split it with my wife...Too many calories). I also picked up a small coleslaw, large mac and cheese (the container was about 60% full), and a large mashed potatoes and gravy. Including tax it came to $24.61...No one in the drive thru. I'm watching stuff happen before my eyes. It reminds me of the COVID shutdown or 9-11...Strange things happening around this town!!
I drove by Round Table Pizza at about 12:30pm today...On my way to Walmart Grocery. No one was there (chain of about 400 pizza parlors)!! All the fast food places looked really slow. Walmart Grocery, looked like the Tuesday/Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I've never parked further from the store than today!! Not ever!! For what it's worth...
