I day trade mostly Nasdaq and some Nyse like most of us here probably. I know the volume and retail aspect are important to us little guys making money. Just wondering if there's anyone here that trades the TSX highest vol stocks? And any other insight. I want to explore this route from reading a recent article that all Canadian volume is done on exchange not in dark pools like USA.

  2. I trade TSX and TSXV stocks including higher volume (those in the TSX 300 composite) and smaller caps (not micro caps). I'm not involved in day trading but my trading frequency is fairly regular (i.e. weekly rotation type strategy).
I find it more difficult than Nasdaq and NYSE due to less liquidity but I'm usually able to get good fills using limit orders. Slippage is definitely higher than US markets but it's manageable.
There are dark pools in Canada:

Looks like about 10% of the volume is there which I think is much less than US.
Overall I've been happy with the performance of my Canadian portfolio and with commodity prices on the rebound I think the Canadian market will do well over the next little bit.
There are some very interesting companies on the TSX Venture exchange that I've been watching (blockchain, clean energy, marijuana).
