Career Advice Needed

  1. As some of you may know, I am currently working as a low level financial analyst, after quitting my job as a controller and being unemployed for 7 months. Now, my manager is leaving to another firm, and this creates a potential opportunity for me.

The problem is, my grade scale that I started was low (I took the job because I was unemployed---I would have taken minimum wage). My grade scale is like 5 level below my manager. From a business and HR perspective, I don't stand a chance.

However, my manager is currently training me to do his job. So, I see a few scenarios that could play out:

    1) They promote me to become a manager.

    2) They promote me to a senior financial analyst, and then hire a manager. (the CFO already requested a manual from my manager, which would make the tasks more easily transferable)

    3) They keep things the way it is.

I see scenario 2) is likely to happen. So, if you are in this situation, what would you do? Should I start looking for another job now?
