Intervention would damage the global economy by pushing up oil prices, China said. Syria is not a significant oil exporter, but the prospect of conflict in the Middle East often pushes up oil prices.

"Military action would have a negative impact on the global economy, especially on the oil price - it will cause a hike in the oil price," said Zhu Guangyao, the Chinese Vice Finance Minister.

Brazil, India and South Africa also worry that intervention would do economic harm, according to Mr Putin's officials.

While the British and French governments have both backed the principle of military intervention to punish the Assad regime's alleged use of chemical weapons, the European Union as a whole is opposed, European officials said.

Herman van Rompuy, the EU president, arrived at the summit with a warning against military action.

The Pope also cautioned against intervention, urging all leaders in St Petersburg to end the "the futile pursuit of a military solution".

Under different circumstances you'd be saying that those countries do not dictate US foreign policy. But since you have "hate Obama" etched onto your brain cell you are forced to switch all over the place.

    you are correct they don't.
what is the point of firing shots with no regime change.
its a stupid plan with no upside.

if you think about it there is no substance to support.

additionally this is the same president who supported the muslim brotherhood in Egypt.

So there is no way anyone can assume he knows what he is doing over there.

    To review his foreign policy.
supported muslim brotherhood in egypt... fail
gave weapons to drug dealers in in mex... fail
armed terrroists in ben ghazi... fail
lied about cause of attack on embassy... fail
lied about he said about the attack fail
Stupidly drew a Red Line... fail
Lied about the red line ... fail
has no idea what to do with Iran... fail
said he does not need congressional support... fail.
could not get world or UN support and assistance... fail.
