So, what kind of B.S. is this? DSIX had been bobbing around $3 for weeks. Yesterday it shoots up to 7 on heavy volume, and then today rockets up to a high of $26.17... a 1500% gain (yes, fifteen-hundred percent gain). THEN they have the nerve to call it a "post-election rally." Zomg The election happened Tuesday last week.. if there was going to be a post-election rally, it would have spiked on Wed, or even Thu. The pop in the Financial markets was a post-election rally.
All the bad shipping companies are rallying and when DRYS got halted, the day traders had to go somewhere else. Condolences to anyone short these. http://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2016...yships-halted-after-1500-post-election-rally/
A rally is one thing, but a 1500% increase??! http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/3...-dead-shorted-diana-containerships-dcix-today
DRYS is a whisker away from BK as George has kept it leveraged for years and still does self dealing to his private Cardiff. He diluted it up to 400M shares and now with its 3 reverse splits its down to 1M shares. If Economou was smart he'd dilute these "stupid shareholders" as he calls them. Monster short squeeze but it is going to implode like, the others, as shipping peaked in 07' as there is way too many ships and newer larger Supramax ships out there. The BDI has hovered around barely profitable for awhile, nothing like its peak, when TCE's had 4X's higher day rate.
Good call. Here come another 10M+ shares, stocks down almost $100/share today. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/dryships-inc-announces-registered-direct-142633366.html
omg! Wth is going on in shipping? Are these thousands-of-basis-point swings the norm in this business?
Used to read about Dryships on Yahoo's Finance forum, years ago. Economou is one hell of a character...he'd have Dryships take a hit buying Panamax's only to sell it to his private company. Made a sweetheart deal to save his nephew from BK, and his 10 ships. Their real money was from their 6 $500M oil rigs in ORIG, that they completely divested this year. No, it's not normal for all these shipping stocks to pop, as it is a pretty boring sector. It goes with how China does, but years ago, they were going to build up a massive fleet of their own, so made it even more challenging for everyone else. More importantly, did I make a fortune, in this trade???? Nope, I couldn't get any shares to short in the mid-$90's. There was one trader who posted their trade and was short 10,000 shares at $94.49...boy is he having a great day. I'll take being right as every dog has his day.lol
I pay good money if you can show me one post or tweet where someone admits to losing more than $100 on the shippers.
