Birth rates are falling in the six most populated countries in the world, though at different speeds. This graphic shows the annual births per 1,000 people in the world’s six largest countries by population. The data is from the UN World Population Prospects (2022) and has been compiled by Our World in Data. The Global Decline in Fertility Rates Fertility rates are declining in most places. According to the UN, in 1990, the average number of births per woman globally was 3.2. By 2019, this had fallen to 2.5 births per woman; by 2050, it is expected to decline further to 2.2 births. Notably, a fertility level of 2.1 births per woman is necessary to avoid a national population decline over the long run (not including net immigration). China’s birth rate has fallen the fastest in recent years among the countries highlighted here. The country registered 7.6 annual births per 1,000 people in 2021, compared to 24.4 in 1990 and 41.0 in 1950. Year China India Indonesia Nigeria Pakistan U.S. 1950 41.0 43.8 40.6 45.6 43.7 22.8 1960 29.8 42.5 44.5 46.1 45.7 22.7 1970 38.3 39.5 39.9 46.7 43.5 18.2 1980 22.3 36.2 33.6 47.5 43.5 15.9 1990 24.4 31.8 25.5 43.8 43.1 16.7 2000 13.8 27.0 21.9 43.5 35.8 14.5 2010 13.3 21.4 20.2 42.1 32.1 13.0 2020 8.6 16.6 16.6 37.5 28.0 10.9 2021 7.6 16.4 16.4 37.1 27.5 11.1 This trend suggests that China could face challenges similar to those faced by Japan, which has a vast senior population and significant economic and social implications. The U.S. registered 11.1 annual births per 1,000 people in 2021, compared to 16.7 in 1990 and 22.8 in 1950. It’s worth noting, however, that the U.S. also adds people to its population through net immigration each year, unlike some other countries in the above dataset. Nigeria, with the highest birth rate on our list, registered 37.1 annual births per 1,000 people in 2021, compared to 43.8 in 1990 and 45.6 in 1950. Copyright © 2024 Visual Capitalist
Your information sources...are a complete narrative. The India and Indonesia numbers are massively incorrect...more clearly FAKE> The only significant real declining birth rates are among North America and Europe (particularly Northern Europe). Asia (including west asia, south asia, east asia, southeast asia) have a very prosperous birth rate along with Central and South America. Anyone who has traveled in recent years would know this without reading western fake new.
It's almost as if 8 billion people are enough. Or how much is enough? 100 billion, everyone like rats on top of each other? Automation and declining birth rates are the future. When countries populations do decline, they will eventually go back up, such is human nature. Populations have fluctuated since the beginning of time...
If you don't count South Korea's 0.72 and Japan's 1.3 fertility rates. You need 2.1 per couples just to keep the population not falling.
https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.TFRT.IN?view=map I know literacy is not a strong suit for an average ETer, but this particular information was literally a single google search away. Birth rates have been declining globally for the last 80 years, globally, in population-weighted terms. There are numerous studies, but if you don’t believe them, you can get raw data and do back of the envelope studies yourself
You need to either make the effort to search or get better a researching info: I know that Singapore has one of the world's lowest birth rate, with Japan and Korea. Is the Indonesian birth rate declining? The birth rate for Indonesia in 2023 was 16.817 births per 1000 people, a 1.63% decline from 2022. The birth rate for Indonesia in 2022 was 17.095 births per 1000 people, a 1.59% decline from 2021. The birth rate for Indonesia in 2021 was 17.372 births per 1000 people, a 1.58% decline from 2020. https://www.macrotrends.net › Indonesia Birth Rate 1950-2024 | MacroTrends Is India birthrate declining? Yes, India's birth rate, or total fertility rate (TFR), has been declining since 1950. The TFR is the average number of children a woman gives birth to, and in 2021 it was 1.91, which is below the replacement rate of 2.1. A Lancet study projects that India's TFR will continue to decline, reaching 1.29 children per woman by 2050 and 1.04 by 2100. Asia.nikkei.com
The point of my post was to discuss the implications of such significant drops in birthrates. For example, demand will drop, so supply will either become more expensive or will disappear. Unemployment will drop unless businesses shut down faster. We already see retirement age being pushed later in many modern countries. Retirement benefits will be a source of even more serious contention. Etc..
The mother earth is not designed for > 1 billion people. More people ---> more pollution ---> More animal extinction ---> depletion of resources. First to go is crude oil
