“Furious Democrats are considering total war — profound changes to two branches of government, and even adding stars to the flag — if Republicans jam through a Supreme Court nominee then lose control of the Senate,” Axios reports. “On the table: Adding Supreme Court justices… eliminating the Senate’s 60-vote threshold to end filibusters… and statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico.” “Dems aren’t optimistic about blocking the nominee. But they have many ways of retaliating if they win Senate control — and are licking their chops about real movement on ideas that have been pushed futilely for decades.”
Interesting word mix in titie: Armageddon; Democrats. In the body of your post, retaliation; total war. How about instead of doing what may feel good for the Democrat Party, constantly exchanging tat for tat, Democrats focus on representing the people? A positive example would be to simply call out Republicans for their lies and hypocracy and get to work on validating the Supreme Court nominee. If the Supreme Court nominee passes muster or not, vote in good faith. Is it not the best option to take such action as to appeal to voters? As it is, many associate Democrats with at least condoning violent riots and police brutality. By police brutality, I mean the condoning of increasing brutality toward police, in spite of most police being outstanding examples of our fellow citizens and that reforms are being implemented. Increasingly, democrats are being associated with intolerance and authoritarism. Is there any wonder why? Any party that openly disrespects our country is not likely to respect its laws, traditions, and customs, right? Tearing down statues, revising history, and attempts to suppress free speech on campuses and social media has to give pause to those who try to imagine what life would be like under Democrat Rule. Then again, those who have been living in Democrat rule in big cities know what it’s like, but they choose to blame someone else. Impressive how that works, but still not in the best interest of those stuck in that situation. For all of Trump’s foibles, he promotes the best interests of the United States as best as he knows how. His policies reflect that. Democrats policies tend to focus more on vote mongering with their policies on immigrants, felons, and the lazy. At taxpayer expense, too. Republican policies focus on providing economic opportunities for all, allowing a chance for those who were shackled by the situation they were born in, to lead lives. You know its true, when you see the decades of Democrat controlled inner cities with generations of families still struggling with high crime and substance abuse. Want to tell us how productive the big cities are again? How about the Democrats take the initiative and hand out the olive branch? If the Republicans refuse, how would you think that would look in voter’s eyes? If the Republicans accept, Democrats get credit for getting something positive done, a big change from the last four years of investigations and at least indirectly inciting riots. Now let’s see if there is some leadership ability on the Harris-Biden team or they are mere puppets waiting for their strings to be pulled by those who have been fighting for so long they forgot diplomacy.
Cons cheered McConnell for stopping even a vote in February. But now they want a confirmation in mere weeks in September. Their tortured logic is nonexistent. It’s rank hypocrisy. Given that, Dems should use their same dishonest script. But make no mistake these two scenarios aren’t the same. Republicans were worse. And they did it first.
The key question now is which side is going to take the initiative and try to end it? I would bet high the side than makes an earnest attempt to mend things will be granted more power. Granted more power. Ugh. The parties have too much power, too much influence in our lives as it is. The parties have an ogliopoly on power, including, many times, the same corporate donors. At some point, especially with social media, people will figure out their game of blaming each other while each side has their turn fooking us, en mass. Look who we have on deck for the Executive Branch: Trump, Pence, Biden, and Harris. I think we all agree they are pretty far from the best and the brightest. I understand the US political process is not designed to attract the best, but three out of the four candidates you could argue are not even fully functional. Ok, four out of four. I would love to see BLM leaders get with the groups(Funny, I can’t think of their names) that support Trump, and organize a massive protest or better yet, organize a new Government and disband the current one. How do you guys feel about that idea?
Its simple what happens next, it is what happens in all countries that go over the edge, as school shootings became normalized, people in power bumping each other off will become commonplace. It is the same thing that happens everywhere. Fascism is the joining of the executive political, business and military (police will do). I have gone from none ever, to my second inquiry if I was interested in private security work in the past three months. These from ex-mil guys I knew, not proof but a sign of an uptick?
You are talking theory, am talking what's happening in reality, there is literally no point discussing hypothetical right now. If the GOP rams a Justice through in the next couple of months, here are some things the Dems will be considering when they take control of the WH and Senate. Expand the Supreme Court to 11 justices eliminate the Senate's 60-vote threshold to end filibusters statehood for D.C.
As you said yourself, Democrats have been wanting these things for decades. Making DC a state, where Democrats regularly receive over 90% of the vote sounds pretty self serving, doesn’t it? I presume a similar situation exists with Puerto Rico. These don’t even begin to scale with appointing a Supreme Court justice early, Especially if the justice is a moderate and philosophical differences are not that great. So instead of taking the high road and possibly coming away with some respect by the undecideds, Democrats are choosing slash and burn. Given recent events, we should not be surprised Democrats are choosing the slash and burn option. There is a better way for all. Hopefully they find it. Or maybe the people will find it for them.
I’m pretty sure it has happened in the United States quite a few time over recent decades. Military grade anthrax and an inordinate number of plane crashes involving very Liberal, but apparently incorruptible Senators while running for reelection, among others. The problem with today’s knowledge and technology is there are almost no effective defenses. From threat detection, to hardened secured sites, to post attack, no one is really safe from modern technology. Think about what I am saying by “Post attack”, where the target gets hit and they don’t even know it. Yet. We need professionalism in our politics pronto haste, before things spiral past the point of no return.
Yes but they didn't have the political capital until now, Republicans are handing them over a platter which is a great thing for Dems. Base is super excited to vote already, this will just focus them more unlike 2016.
