Facebook, "Misinformation," and Freedom of Speech

Some worrying statements on the FB call regarding "misinformation." Who decides exactly what constitutes "misinformation?" What are these "other types of misinformation?" There are three separate issues that I see.

First, what makes a post "misinformation?" This seems to be somewhat synonymous censorship and redaction. While I would agree with Mr. Zuckerberg's example that inhaling water to cure COVID is misinformation, there are many shades of gray--and I fear that some legitimate posts are labeled as misinformation and removed. E.g., perhaps I make a post in opposition to the Great Lockdown, stating that it is a violation of our constitutional rights. Could this be considered misinformation? It really amounts denial of freedom of speech. I have seen some posts that make some thought-provoking points labeled as misinformation, taken down. There seems to be a fine line between misinformation and posts that challenge the current agenda.

Second, the heavy-handed consequence of taking posts down. I think that more appropriate would be to flag posts as misinformation, similar to how YT flags posts as "some viewers may find this disturbing," and you have to click through. Let the consumer decide. Facebook is not my mother; honestly, pretty much everything on my FB feed has a caveat emptor asterisk affixed.

Third is that a centralized corporation is exercising their power in this way. Not a new issue, but COVID has really highlighted just how much power FB has to censor. I'm temped to write a blockchain-based social media platform that is decentralized; not so easy for a small group of people to control; the bitcoin of social media, if you will.

Always ask yourself who the man behind the man behind the throne is.

Zuck, bezos, gates, trump, obama, biden, clinton ...they're all pawns.

The misinformation is what they post. Look no further. Youtube, Facebook, and Reddit control the narrative.

It is pretty simple, is it absolute garbage?

Do you have difficulty when you see graffiti sprayed on a building identifying it?

A lot of this stuff is designed to draw in simpletons. There is a old joke, how do you tell if it is art or is it just rubbish? Ask a cleaner in a university art department.

Keep it simple. Flagging as a problem and age verifying, removing beheading videos, lots of stuff can just go.

What is actually lost? The up loaders can repost to a different host and they do. There are porn shops for porn, there are streaming video sites that will host the videos, it does not have to be on YouTube. I set up a new TV recently, no account set, new IP and the first thing I was being offered was flat earth conspiracy.

Kids can't tell its just rubbish so easily.
