You do realize that the Mexican standard of living was raised with many factories located in Mexico (i.e. “the great sucking sound to the south”). Also the majority of illegal immigrants at the border today are from Central America, not Mexico. NAFTA basically worked as described— but it did not get rid of the drug cartel violence in Mexico.
