    First Columbia, now Cornell.

Pay a fine, promise to block students from protesting against Israel. Get your federal research funding back.

    Proper Democracy at work.

(Bloomberg) --Cornell Universityis advancing in talks with theTrump administrationto reinstate hundreds of millions of dollars in research funding amid efforts by the White House to get schools to resolve allegations of campus antisemitism, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Ivy League school is likely to be among the next to settle with the government afterColumbia Universityannounced a sweeping agreement with the White House on Wednesday, according to the people. A mutual draft document has been circulated and has yet to be signed, said one of the people.

Neither Cornell nor the White House would comment on the talks.

A White House official said other schools are also close to deals, includingBrown UniversityandNorthwestern University. Northwestern declined to comment and Brown did not respond to a request for comment.

While the terms with Cornell are still loose and a deal isn’t imminent, it is expected to broadly mirror the model of Columbia’s settlement, with a cash fine to civil rights violations as well as a wide set of reforms.

Columbia, which saw more than $400 million in grants and contracts frozen, said on Wednesday that it will pay $200 million to settle accusations of civil rights violations, and made a series of commitments including sharing more information with federal agencies about hiring and admissions decisions, restructuring how it oversees student protests, and tightening rules against disruptive or masked demonstrations.

Screaming "Fire!" in a theater is not protected by free speech. They're not banning free speech or demonstrations, they're telling the school that tolerating "screaming fire in the theater" is wrong, and cutting funds is the way to make them comply. "Death to Israel" inspires nuts.

I bet if Columbia had a KKK chapter and they were marching around saying lynch all black people and Biden cut funds... you'd be 1000% supportive. Which would be correct. It's the same thing.

Freedom of Speech in The Constitution only refers to political speech, not everything under the sun.

I thought you guys were all about Freedoms. Is that not the case?

"Death to Israel" inspires nuts, then all the bat shit things Trump says does not? Like "Fight Fight Fight." Because the conservative perspective was that Freedom of Speech is absolute and it wasn't right for social media platforms to shut trump down when he was inspiring nuts to commit violence during his election fraud claims. I know it's off topic but i want to understand the logic (or how one dances around it)

Second, you acknowledge this is about Israel and not about Jewish people. (Though I can see how you conflate the two as Trump=America in your eyes).

Cutting science research grants over some students protesting something you don't like?

That wasn't the conservative way. But maybe now it is.
