I watched it about a month ago I think. I wont bet against his vision of seeing mass job loss and SkyNet(AI) killing off humanity.
We are already seeing job losses, at least in IT. Look up statistics about junior developers; companies are no longer recruiting them. I am not looking for jobs anymore, but I can see the number of emails that I get from recruiters has reduced a lot. https://www.finalroundai.com/blog/ai-replacing-jobs-2025
Companies are no longer hiring as many junior developers because so many more experienced developers are out of work that they can hire them for almost the same money instead. It isn't AI that caused the reduction in recruitment, it was the Fed raising rates that killed the IT job market, starting in Mid 2022 firms began layoffs, six months before ChatGPT was even released. One area where AI has affected recruitment is that it has sucked up most of the VC money that would have gone to non AI IT startup projects.
Rod Sterling saw this coming long ago. The Brain Center at Whipple's The Twilight Zone: Season 5, Episode 33
Forbidden Planet... With Leslie Nelson... Anne Francis and Walter Pidgeon Fantastic movie... Talk about AI being out of control... The Krell
90's was Peak humanity. I listen to alot of 90's music and movies...to take me back to an era of happiness. The future feels rather depressing. It has felt this way since around 2010
Great episode. The best part is when the CEO gets canned and is talking to the engineer he canned earlier in the episode. That was the hallmark of Sterling's shows: Comeuppance. Sterling got his start in one the great early TV drama shows called Playhouse 90. A lot of the Twilight Zone episodes are directly from the morality plays he wrote back then.
