As of Friday close, I was flat a particular stock. Also Sunday evening, account reflected no position. Problem fixed: see bottom of this message. ****************** But about 2:30 am Monday, I'm short 4,000 shares. No doubt it was due to options I exercised during the day Friday, by shorting the stock, and then exercising calls during the day. Now, I'm unable to have a chat, nor even leave a message with customer service. I have already signed-off, & logged-in again; no change. HOWEVER, when I create a Booktrader for that stock, it does NOT show any position. The 4,000 shares short is only shown in Account Equity / position function. Anyone else having IB problems? NOW, at 3:28 am, IB has corrected erroneous position, now showing no position in that stock, and my account equity has returned to where it was both Fri evening and Sunday evening. IB apparently corrected the problem, but during that approx 45 minutes, I was unable to place an order -- maybe that was system-wise, rather than just my account .
Once in a while, I see strange problems when the brokers turn on the engine during the start of the week. I rarely contact the help desk unless it is a life-and-death situation. I usually let other people contact the help desk. Then their lives will be shortened (especially if they contact the charting software service provider). If you have gone through the recent forum messages, you probably would have some idea about the technical problems.
I've had accounts with IB for 30 years, rarely with a serious problem, but this morning, at least for about an hour, I was unable to place any orders. I've generally found IB help responds within a few hours. But this morning, I was unable to chat, nor even leave an online message, so they must have had some significant issues.
To paraphrase the OP: If you posted the stock it would be helpful. Was it US stocks, European stocks, Asian stocks? screen shots of positions? It’s not worth going through the permutations what could have happend when you don’t respect the forum enough to give relevant details.
At about 3 am this morning, erroneous position was fixed. HOWEVER, at about 3:30 pm, the bad short 4,000 shares re-appeared. Due to increased margin requirements, I'm unable to place any new orders -- in stocks, or futures. It seems I need to switch more business to other firms, & close IB account.
