Hypothetical question. Account Value $40 000 During the day session i go long of approximately $160 000 worth of AAPL. Can I hold that stock all the way and trade it out in the closing auction to get the close price? Or will I be forced to close half of it before then? to reduce my gearing to 2X.
That’s about right. Their auto-liquidation programs kick in at 1545 EST. I start my own auto-liquidation at 1544.
Would IB close the entire position? Or would they reduce its size until the resulting position meets the margin requirements?
Leading on from my question. Account Value $40000 10 minutes before the day session starts. Can I put in an order for $160000 worth of AAPL (4X Gearing) to trade the open? Or will IB security measures limit me to trade 2X gearing on the open only allowing me 4X gearing a fraction of a second after the open.
My understanding is that they check only once per day, at 14:45 EST. So this would not affect your 4x gearing around market open.
What is IIRC? At Lightspeed you can. You can use your full your full day trading buying power on Lightspeed Trader starting at 4am and exit MOC to less than 2X. I have never asked but it is possible you hold your full DT BP until 8pm.
