So in LA they close down the entire school system. 600, 000 students kept home based on one email to one person. New york got the same email and laughed it off as an obvious hoax.
Was is a mistake? Yes, but I have to give the Board Supt. a pass. The problem is they have no real protocol or training in place to deal with such situations. Having the Board Supt. to be the shot caller is not what you want. It was solely a CYA decision, and I can't blame the guy for making it. These decisions should be made by the Mayor and Police Chief after direct consultation with the FBI.
Hiring security guards to stand outside the school would do a lot less damage to the economy than parents calling in sick because they can't line up last minute day care. Of course that doesn't come out of the school system's budget. This decision should have been made further upstairs.
