UPDATED 7:54 a.m. ET
Herman Cain tops Mitt Romney in latest CBS/NYT poll
October 25, 2011 7:23 AM
Businessman Herman Cain is now atop the field of Republican White House hopefuls, squeaking past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the latest CBS News/New York Times poll.
Cain garnered 25 percent support of Republican primary voters in the poll released on Tuesday, compared to Romney's 21 percent.
In early October, the two men were tied at 17 percent.
The poll was conducted Oct 19-24 among 1,650 adults. 1,475 interviews were conducted among registered voters and 455 voters who said they plan to vote in a Republican primary. The margin of error among primary voters is plus or minus four percentage points.
Cain's support surged among voters who identified with the conservative Tea Party wing of the Republican party, rising to 32 percent in mid-October from 18 percent just a few weeks ago. That's more than four times the level of support he had from the group in mid-September.

This ad reminds me of something off of East Bound and Down with Kenny Powers. Im starting to wonder whether or not Cain is crazy like a fox. There is no way on earth anyone could have made an ad like this intending for it to be serious, i think he knew it would end up all over the news wires. Funniest political ad ever.
After his abortion stumble, changes to 999 to 909,electric fence etc I thought he would have been dropping like a rock in the polls He has just released one of the most amateurish ads from a top presidential candidate I have ever seen
leave Cain alone AK. It is still a year out from the second Tuesday in Nov. 2012. By that time, no one will remember this fellows name. He is being completely ignored by his home town and his home state.
Cain cant keep track of the convicted felons he hires to work on his security team Herman Cain's rep was dead wrong when he told TMZ that Oksana Grigorieva's ex-con bodyguard only protected the Republican presidential candidate one time ... and we have the photo proof. TMZ broke the story ... Kristian Otto Herzog -- who served jail time in 2009 for impersonating a police officer -- was a member of Cain's security detail during a campaign stop in Detroit on Oct. 21. Cain's rep told us Herzog only worked for the campaign on that ONE occasion ... and insisted he would not be asked back to work any future Cain events. But TMZ has obtained photos of Herzog working security at the Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas on Oct. 18 ... even taking a photo with Cain's arm draped around him at the hotel after the event. Now, Cain's rep has changed his tune -- telling us he "did some research" and could now confirm Herzog did work the debate along with a 3rd event in Ohio on October 22. Sources connected to the Cain camp tell us ... Herzog may have been able to slip through the screening process because the campaign was in a "rush" to find extra security and didn't have time to perform a more thorough background check. TMZ spoke with Herzog ... who insists he was NOT fired ... but says he felt pressured to resign after we published our story this weekend. Herzog also claims the Cain campaign should have been fully aware of his background, because he sent them a copy of his book, "My True Hollywood Story." Herzog is a felon twice over who has repeatedly impersonated a police officer with loaded firearms. In 2009 alone, he was arrested twice and each case involved firearms. According to court records, in April, Herzog chased two men who were driving in Hollywood, confronted them and accused them of cutting him off. Authorities say Herzog impersonated a cop in his Crown Victoria, with a placard on the dash which read "Police Interceptor." Herzog was carrying a loaded semiautomatic firearm. In May 2009, Herzog followed a woman out of a Ralph's supermarket, turned on lights and a siren he rigged on his car ... and after she stopped, he began asking her personal questions. She freaked out, drove away and found a nearby cop, who arrested Herzog. At the time of his arrest, Herzog had a knife in his boot as well as a loaded semiautomatic handgun which was not registered to him. Herzog was charged with multiple crimes and pled no contest in October, 2009 to two counts of impersonating an officer -- both felonies. He was sentenced to one year in jail but was given credit for time served -- he was in jail for 255 days after his second arrest in May. He is on three years probation and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
I don't get it. What was funny or stupid about the political ad? Did I click the wrong link? The ad was boring and uneventful. Certainly not inspiring.
Seriously? LOL, you got to work on your sense of humor. Its funny cause the ad is totally bush league, to the point of looking like some kid in the 80's made it. The guy who is pitching is dog ugly with crooked yellow teeth, his line is "Cain will put the united back in america" (cheese) then the guy takes a puff of a dart which is a cardinal sin for a politician, then the 80's music comes in and Cain slowly starts to smile. The whole thing seems like something you would see on Napoleon Dynamite. If you dont see the humor in that video you have a really dry personality.
After all these years of decline in this country and all the nonsense/corruption from the thugs in D.C., it's hard to imagine why anyone would be against Herman Cain, and why you are still in favor of the same 'ol, same 'ol deadass politicians. Wake up folks. It's these "professional politicians" who got us into the mess we are in today. Yet, many of you follow along like sheep when these same types tell you that now they know how to fix it all. LOL. Guess what---Herman Cain readily admits that he is not a politician. Yet, some of you are unable to understand that this is a good thing. Retrain your mind. Many of you are being led down the same path to further destruction which we have been on for years.
I agree. The ad just reminded me of a chain smoker who used to work for me who late in the day would make me practically vomit if he started talking to me with his late day smokers breath. Same with girls I would date. I don't care how cute they were, if they smoked they were off my list. I quickly discovered that dating girls who smoke was like licking an ashtray. Yuuuukkk! Maybe the ad appeals to blue collar workers (many of whom still smoke) but it just reminds me of that awful bad breath.
