Hi, if OI changes (up or even down), but not the volume, what does this mean, and how is that possible at all? Ie. I've seen cases where OI increases (and also cases where it decreases), but without any corrosponding change in the volume... Any rational explanation for this?
What are you talking about ? Give us the TF as well as the instrument. IO can change for a constant flow of transaction. Day 1 Someone Buys 15 contracts -> Volume 15 & Open Interest 15 Day 2 Someone Sells 15 contracts -> Volume 15 & Open Interest 00 No ?
I've observed it between two sessions: This is at yesterdays EOD: K=25.00 IONS160603C00025000 L=0.25 B=0.20 A=0.30 C=0.00 Vol=166 OI=588 And this is today at about 08:00 ET, ie. before market opening: K=25.00 IONS160603C00025000 L=0.25 B=0.20 A=0.30 C=0.00 Vol=166 OI=686 The OI has changed overnight from 588 to 686, but volume has not changed. Where will the difference of 98 contracts will be recorded? I mean in which day's volume? And: how are such trades possible without any change in Bid/Ask/Last/Volume?
Pls see the above posting; the spread is the same; it was an overnight action by someone else... I just try to understand what's going on there...
It's maybe not the solution but, Open Interest is one day delayed. So it didn't really changed overnight. It changed according to yesterday's activity. And yesterday's OI refers to last Friday's activity.
Are you sure about the one day delay? Any reference to official rules? I just can't see any reason why it should be delayed. Is the volume delayed as well?
K-Pia is correct. The reported OI remains constant during the day and is updated after trading. Volume, should be as expected.
Volume ain't delayed But OI is only available EOD. So if you see an OI intraday it should refers to the last EOD.
