I'm doing the kids panto again this year and a little tired of Marvel theme characters. Nobody wants to do my idea, so rather than tears in confetti rain, I'm looking for show backers who need a tax break. Think "The Producers". I'm not really. I am literally waiting for glue to dry putting up the panto set. @echopong from Thailand gave me an idea today to adapt the noir and brutal Thailand set movie "Only God Forgives" as a pantomime. In truth this movie is a perfect analogy of what happens in the real world when narcissist groupie idiots who don't know they are, fuck around and find out. Working Title: Only Fun Forgives! Act 1: The Great Noodle Showdown Setting: A colorful noodle shop in magical Bangkok Protagonist: Julian, a kind-hearted blonde noodle chef who dreams of winning the Grand Noodle Competition. Conflict: His mischievous older brother, Billy, has stolen all the noodles from rival shops, causing chaos in the noodle district. Villain: A strict but fair noodle inspector, Chang, arrives to restore order. Act 2: Noodles and Nemesis Billy gets caught stealing from a rival noodle shop, and Chang challenges him to a noodle duel. Mom arrives: The over-the-top, narcissistic mother Crystal demands Billy and Julian expand their "Noodle Empire" at any cost, showing no concern for fairness. Act 2: Trouble in Noodle Town Billy faces Chang, the strict noodle inspector with a mysterious past. Billy loses and gets banished from the noodle district (cue over-the-top dramatic crying). Julian steps forward to apologize on behalf of his family. It’s clear Billy is never coming back. Act 3: Julian’s Dilemma With Billy gone, Mother Crystal pushes Julian to confront Chang and take revenge, even though Julian just wants to make noodles in peace. Julian reluctantly faces Chang in a noodle duel. However, he loses spectacularly and, instead of forgiveness, Chang declares Julian "unworthy" and leaves him to reflect on his family’s misdeeds. Mother Crystal, furious, takes matters into her own hands, planning to “fix” Chang herself. Act 4: The Reckoning In a climactic showdown, Mother Crystal faces Chang in the noodle shop. Her schemes and selfishness lead to her downfall, as Chang "vanquishes" her in a dramatic, non-gory but final moment (e.g., her beloved fur coat is whisked away by magic, and she shrinks down into a tiny, powerless figure). Definately not having her throat cut by Chang as if she were a broiler chicken. That would be scary for kids. And we need to leave Julian alive too... So.. Julian is left alone, not as a hero, but as someone who must rebuild the shop and his reputation from scratch. Finale: A Bittersweet Lesson Chang leaves a cryptic line about justice and honor, disappearing into the night. Possibly leaving just an oragami unicorn. Julian quietly reopens the noodle shop, promising to focus on fairness and humility. While there’s no grand celebration, the townsfolk cautiously return to support him, hinting at slow redemption. Very slow.
It is not as dark as most Disney movie plots. I mean at least the parent dies at the end, not in the first two minutes.
