Major averages in the U.S. finished lower on Monday in a late-day sell-off, despite a rebound in financials and retailers. The positive tone for financials was set during the European morning after the U.K.'s Daily Telegraph reported over the weekend that Barclays will give detailed financial information about the performance of its investment banking unit in order to quell write-down rumors. Shares of Barclay’s gained more than 8% on the day after falling 9% on Friday.
