this is a fairly simple idea: [in the United States] make it illegal to Manufacture handguns make it illegal to Sell handguns make it illegal to Buy handguns make it illegal to Export & Import handguns [US] and that's it! think about it; everything else remains as it is you can Legally Own as many handguns as you like the idea is, through attrition, the number of handguns would decrease, over time [sure there are workarounds if you are determined, but so what] eventually, fewer handguns to get into the hands of criminals & kids? marc

The Nazis were pretty straightforward in the way they expressed things and did things. Their platform stated that only the results of labor were to be valued, not investment. That was directed straight at Jews but one might not realize that upon first reading it. Once Hitler was in power he passed a registration law that included valuables, their value, their location and I guess that included guns. The penalty was ten years for not reporting stuff and people complied. Once he knew where the guns were he took them away from people, then after successfully disarming them he came back and took their valuables and eventually he shipped the people he targeted off to labor camps. I knew a few Germans back in the day that were from that era. I never heard them complain about Hitler. I think that a lot of Nazis got their mortgages cancelled, they were struggling when Hitler came to power, for all I know he let them know that their mortgages would be cancelled... Any politician today from any party could get elected on the promise of mortgages being cancelled probably.
Aren't we working on that already... at least in part? Odumbo wants the portion of peoples' mortgage which is "under water" to be just forgiven. Wants student loans in arrears to be forgiven, too. Why don't we just forgive EVERY debt while we're at it?
Better solution... MAKE IT MANDATORY THAT ALL ADULTS CARRY! That way the perps would have to find legitimate work.
The US doesn't have a handgun problem. We have a mentally ill running around free to do what they want problem. We have a lack of enforcement of the 22,000 existing gun laws problem. We have an insufficient punishment for violent felons problem. But we don't have a handgun problem. As for making it illegal to import buy/sell manufacture handguns, how did that work out for alcohol during prohibition or now with illegal drugs?

OK, try jumping off a tall building and let us know how it turns out. Term limits WILL work and I'd like to implement them as well. Never gonna happen though. It has no chance of working and in fact has all but already failed. I can absolutely guarantee you it will not work. It's just as stupid as jumping off a high building to see what will happen. If you're not intelligent enough to figure out what will happen in either scenario we're wasting our time here. Oh I do, all pretty much opposed by bleeding heart leftists and gun control proponents.
