QCollector out of business?

Discussion in 'Data Sets and Feeds' started by Laissez Faire, Mar 9, 2025.

  1. Hello everyone,

I've been using QCollector for well over 10 years now to download intraday 1/5-minute data from IQFeed. This is stored in a *.csv file (time; open; high; low; close; volume).

Last week, all of a sudden, the program would no longer start. I contacted support, but no reply. I asked another unrelated question a few months ago and didn't get a reply on that one either. Then, this Friday, the webpage seems to have been taken offline.

I suspect this software is now dead. Are there any other active users who may have faced the same problem?

I've noticed that every time I've visited the webpage it seems like there's no activity and the last update seemed to be in 2013, so I was suspecting this could happen some day.

I'm now looking for options to do the same thing and have already contacted a few (XLQ and QuoteLink) which are compatible with IQFeed. I'm not married to IQFeed, though, so maybe there are other options that are just as good.

    Thanks in advance.

Sure looks like Mechtrader is done, but depending on what format you need, you could try EODHD. They offer a Windows downloader that I took for a test drive last night (ticker BTC-USD.CC is free to use), but alas, their version of "Metastock" format is not readable as TradeStation 3rd party data.

Alternatively, you could switch to the entry level of eSignal, but that would depend on being able to get the username that matches your QCollector license.

    Good luck.

P.S. Google around but I found another forum where someone said, "I believe I found out what the problem was. It's a Windows Update to 24H2. If I knew that, I could have rolled back my Windows version, but it's too late now without doing a full install."

  3. Hello there, teresalo,

It did indeed turn out to be due to the Windows 24H2 update. MechTrading/QCollector also stopped supporting the software I was told through another party (never answered my e-mails). Possibly due to the 24H2 update. It's possible it may be fixed in a future update of Windows, but you never know.

For now, I've been updating my DB using IQ Feed's T&S. It doesn't work for real-time updates with my current set-up as I need to format the data, but I might be able to fix it with a tweak.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll take a look at EODHD.
