Another company thats seeing its stock price soar is QS, now worth more than Ford and Gm. And I'm sure the masses of people think this is absolutely normal. They hype is absurb. STOCK ALERT QuantumScape Is Now the Second Most Valuable Car Stock In America Dec. 22, 2020 5:00 pm ET
And then there's Tesla.... Worth more than the other top 8 carmakers... COMBINED! https://247wallst.com/autos/2020/12...-all-big-car-companies-in-the-world-combined/
Maybe it is a clean energy company. Exxon had the highest market cap 7 years ago. If dirty energy can have a high market cap why not clean energy?
well, one's delivering a product you can turn into energy, the other one is delivering promises. Don't be sad OP, I passed on QS last week like an idiot.
Actually BYD, a chinese electric car maker, is now valued around 70bln USD and would deserve to go on that list. I didn t dare to touch TSLA but been long BYD H shares (stock code 1211) for a few years in an account I don t check details too often. Downloaded statements recently and it happens that BYD shares by themselves have acted rather similarly to TSLA and kept that account positive for the year.
I guess... but when you factor in all the costs of producing and operating a Tesla, it ain't all that clean. Still hard to fathom with Tesla's revenues being only 3% of the other car companies'.
I remember years ago on Financial News Network where some old timer was asked about "buying the market here". He replied, "the market is priced at 16x earnings. You can't make money paying a 16x multiple." Last I saw, Tesla was trading at 1200x! Apparently there are a number of car companies trying to break into the EV market... like 25 in China alone. I imagine Tesla stock will experience a "correction" as the competition gets priced in.
I was getting to that fact and how that in itself is the tell all sign that markets are just in LA LA land. I dont care what the future says about a company there is no way no how a single EV company can be worth more than 8 of the largest auto companies in the world.
Valuations are ridiculous and crashes will be epic. But momentum is driving the market. Not silly stuff like sales or ebitda sigh. Welcome to bubble city
