As NSW recorded two more passenger deaths from the ship, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said patient zero was probably a crew member. The Ruby Princess is docked in Port Kembla, south of Sydney. It is expected to leave on Wednesday.Credit:Nick Moir "At this stage we would think that it was probably a crew member working in probably the galley, someone who is serving food, someone who would get across a number of passengers for it to spread like it has," Mr Fuller said on Monday. "But again, that is not proven as fact yet, but that would seem to be the most obvious point of transmission is someone who is handling food on behalf of multiple hundreds of people." A criminal investigation, led by NSW homicide detectives, is underway into the cruise ship, with hundreds of witnesses expected to be interviewed. Mr Fuller said Crime Stoppers had received 220 leads relating to the Ruby Princess investigation and said it could take "two months" to follow them up. The latest deaths in NSW were a 74-year-old woman in Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital and a 79-year-old man at the Northern Beaches Hospital. Both were passengers on the Ruby Princess. In Australia, 18 deaths and as many as 700 cases have been linked to the cruise ship. So far 66 crew members have tested positive to coronavirus and 11 have been evacuated from the ship for treatment in hospital. The ship is docked at Port Kembla, south of Sydney, and is expected to leave on Wednesday. NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the coronavirus outbreak on board the Ruby Princess could have been much worse if the almost 2700 passengers had not disembarked on March 19. Mr Hazzard said he was repeating the view of NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant, who previously said more infections could have occurred if passengers had not departed the ship. The original source of coronavirus on board the Ruby Princess may have been discovered, with police suspecting a crew member who was handling food for the passengers and staff.
This is why these articles are bullshit. "But again, that is not proven as fact yet, but that would seem to be the most obvious point of transmission is someone who is handling food on behalf of multiple hundreds of people." They have no information at all and making up bullshit to spit out there and then it gets mass media reproduced. An infected passenger can spread it just as easily to most of tthe ship through constant contact so why conjecture on something they know nothing about it. Piece of shit journalism.
More than 350 infections in NSW alone linked to Ruby Princess Nineteen Australian passengers on board the Ruby Princess have died from coronavirus, with 369 infections in NSW alone linked to the cruise ship. The Australian death toll linked to the ship rose by one yesterday after a woman in her 60s died in Canberra Hospital after contracting COVID-19. It is believed a coronavirus outbreak in Tasmania's north-west is also linked to a Ruby Princess passenger who died in the state last month.
