Dennis Hastert made payments to conceal sexual misconduct, sources say http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-hastert-misconduct-20150529-story.html Indicted former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was paying an individual from his past to conceal sexual misconduct, two federal law enforcement officials said Friday. Federal prosecutors have announced bank-related charges against former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert. One of the officials, who would not speak publicly about the federal charges in Chicago, said “Individual A,” as the person is described in Thursday’s federal indictment, was a man and that the alleged misconduct was unrelated to Hastert’s tenure in Congress. The actions date to Hastert’s time as a Yorkville, Ill., high school wrestling coach and teacher, the official said. “It goes back a long way, back to then,” the source said. “It has nothing to do with public corruption or a corruption scandal. Or to his time in office.” Thursday’s indictment described the misconduct “against Individual A” as having “occurred years earlier.” Asked why Hastert was making the payments, the official said it was to conceal Hastert’s past relationship with the male. “It was sex,’’ the source said. The other official confirmed that the misconduct involved sexual abuse. Hastert and his attorneys could not be reached. Representatives of his lobbying firm declined to comment.
I'm not defending Hastert. I never saw what he brought as Speaker. You will recall Mark Foley rose to prominence under him, so that's kind of a coincidence too. What I do question is why the government is prosecuting the putative victim here. Hastert was clearly being blackmailed, yet he is the one getting indicted for penny ante banking violations. His blackmailer has not been prosecuted, at least yet. Everyone will now assume this is some sort of high school version of the Penn State scandal. What is wrong with these people anyway? If you have some sort of embarrassing sex scandal in your past, why in the world run for public office?
Bill Clinton-lied under oath while president and chief law enforcement officer of the United States. -get out of jail free card Dennis Hastert-lied to FBI agent while he's not in office.- indicted Laws are only made to get republicans. Or democrats who won't tow the party line. (Menendez)
Well now this makes more sense. Nobody pays this kind of money just to hide a homosexual past. What exactly is sexual mis conduct? Sex with another teacher? You pay millions to hush that? Nope. You're out for the game for years now and you're still paying? To hide what? Boning under age school kids? Now that's something you will pay any amount to hide. If he's guilty of that, burn his ass.
