Thinkorswim, works only with papermoney, not with livetrading

Hi I have thinkorswim platform 64bit(and 32bit also) installed on windows 7. I can login via papermoney and use it as always but it hangs up while loging via livetrading. I checked firewalls and network access. Everything is ok(otherwise why will it work with papermoney only?)
I use windows 7 desktop and have only standard user privilages, cant access admin level. After a month of talking/emailing with TD team, nothing progressing. Tech team is not even replying to emails nowadays. I think it is a hardcoded bug and they dont care anymore about customers.
TOS platform was main reason, I use their brokerage but now I am seriously thinking to switch brokerages because of their inability to address problem.

Have you tried installing TOS on another computer? Or doing a clean reinstall of Windows. Seems like a silly reason to switch brokers.

Yes I tried to put it on another laptop. Same problem occurs. Reinstalling windows is not worth the efforts.
Puzzeling is why my papermoney works and not livetrading?
Also thinkarchitect thru browser is very childish s/w, you cant trade anything seriously.
Funny is IB TWS works perfectly on same computer, which is also similar java based platform.
I won't switch away from TOS, but certainly not use actively...
    Thanks

  4. I've never had issues that weren't resolved promptly with TOS. Their chat reps have been very helpful over the years. I wanted to customize a technical indicator, and I'm not well versed in writing scripts. A rep even called me to discuss it, and then sent me an email with the script the next day. So it's quite surprising they won't address a permanent solution for your issues.

Yes, there are minor annoyances, such as the daily updates before logging in, but I'm used to it now. Did you have this issue from day 1, or just recently the past month? If live trading worked before, then I'm sure there's a fix. If not, then perhaps you can switch operating systems, instead of switching brokerages.

    Just my 2 cents.

maybe the 32bit and 64 bit are in conflict with one another. try one at a time.

Thanks. I tried it by keeping only one (32 or 64 bit). Same problem. TOS tech did log file trace but didnot understand why papermoney works perfectly but not live trading.
Also TOS comes with its own java jre. So computer java donot interfere with it.

ask them to close the account and to reopen the account with a new number a day later.
ask them how they solved the problem for other people?
make sure you talk to one tech person, who is handling your issue, directly.

When you say hangs up do you mean hangs at the login window entirely? This sounds like an ACL issue. The paper money network URL is separate from the live money network URL and network wise you're running into problems with the latter. Is this from home? What kind of internet access is being used here?

When i enter userid and pw it just couldnot pass past that window, message "logging" and after 5 mins nothing happens. Whereas fpr papermoney it goes thru and i can access platform. As per TOS tech rep I re-entered server address and port numbers in login window but same hangup. It is from home with standard wifi setup with cable company. Something is changed in TOS sw since last month update(automatic) and for them, if they cant replicate at their high end computers then problem doesnot exist...

If you can't trade live with them regardless if the problem is their system or your computer...

Why continue to waste time with this ? Call them up, close your account and then open your account with another broker. Losing trading days over this issue is actually costing you profits (assuming you're a profitable trader) in comparison to trading with someone else that you can trade.

Last of all, always have a plan B...sometimes called backup plan so that if this happens again with someone else...it doesn't impact your ability to trade because you have an alternative broker.
