Three Black Cops Shoot White Homeowner Three black cops in DeKalb County, Georgia break into a white man's home shoot him, kill his dog, and manage to shoot one of themselves in the process. Afterwards witnesses claim that the officers attempt to intimidate the homeowner to admit to crime while hand-cuffing him in his driveway while wounded. His only crime appears to be watching TV with his wife and one year old child while the police broke into his back door for no legitimate reason. The AJC article with pictures of the cops - http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/cop-shot-responding-to-wrong-house-gbi-leading-inv/nnWKr/ The lengthy facebook post from the man, Derek Perez, who originally called 911 in this incident, includes a description of the homeowner in his driveway as a white man in his 30s - You ask - why does DeKalb County sound familiar. Probably because it is the most corrupt county in Georgia if not the entire U.S. - Investigator: Corruption in DeKalb County 'stunning'. The most corrupt part of county government is the police. For a reminder of previous events in the county... This is the same county in 2000 where the defeated sheriff, Sidney Dorsey, assassinated the newly elected sheriff Derwin Brown. The Terrell Bolton police chief corruption controversy in the mid-2000s as well as Jones. Recently, County Commissioner Boyer just went to federal prison for corruption. In 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 the police in DeKalb County have been accused of robbing and shaking down homeowners. It is not surprising that many commenters (see facebook thread) believe this incident was another attempt to rob and shakedown a homeowner that went wrong. What do all of these police abuse cases in DeKalb County have in common during the last decade - the police officers are black and the complainants are not. Where is Obama's justice department investigation of the policing problems in DeKalb County?
Any reason you couldn't use the thread you already started on this topic, and simply update the race attribute of all persons in it?
The thread title is used to attract attention and to draw focus to the police corruption in this county which has not been addressed by Obama's justice department for his entire time in office. Can you explain to me why when the police shoot a black criminal in other cities Obama's justice department is all over it, but when black officers systematically abuse non-minority residents for years it is ignored?
Can you explain to me why the racial balances of power are the most important part of every story to you?
It is that legal administration and protection is equally applied to all races that is most important to me. Let's also discuss the problem in your backyard, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, which only investigates complaints of discrimination and hate speech from Muslims and minorities, and not once has investigated a complaint from a Jewish or white person.
I have to admit I have not properly assimilated to Canadian society, so I rarely follow its politics. (Harper's an idiot, a distributive party took power in Alberta, that's about it.) When I read your first version of this story, I thought about similar fuckups I've seen in law enforcement, well, corrections, and thought, "TARFU". I didn't even wonder about the race of anyone involved.
Racially based prejudices combined with police stupidity are probably at the root of many of these instances. I have heard from social workers that in the deep south black prejudice against whites is nowadays more dangerous and disruptive to peace and tranquility than white prejudice against blacks. When you throw minimally educated, militarized police, armed to the teeth, into that mix, is it any wonder that people are being killed for no reason. My personal experience confirms what these social workers are telling me. One of them told me that black parents are telling their children that the white man is the devil... The political solution to higher crime rates has traditionally been more police. In my opinion this is ineffective and makes matters worse; not better. I think we would do far better to halve the number of police, pay them twice as much and only hire college educated, well-trained police.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Well, good shot on the dog, clean kill. My dad never did like bad mannered dogs. That article is not very accurate; police work in city, sheriff in county.Wonder why no one made an issue of dog color??
Actually you are very incorrect about the police and sheriff's department in DeKalb County. The DeKalb County Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia. The department serves a population of more than 730,000 people. The police chief is appointed - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeKalb_County_Police_Department The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department is also responsible for the entire county but has different roles. They deal with courts, warrants, inmates, evictions, and some traffic issues. The Sheriff is elected. http://www.dekalbsheriff.org/web/home_message.php DeKalb County is a suburban / rural county in Georgia with no major cities. It is heavily populated and close to Atlanta. Most counties with these demographics in the South have both an unincorporated county police and sheriff's department. These departments overlap but have different roles. The Sheriff's are typically elected. If there are large cities in the County they may have their own police departments so they are not patrolled by the county police, but still served by the Sheriff's department for warrants, etc.
