Dear All, How do you tithe on your earnings in the market? The way I'm trading, my money is always vested in something. I do not sell out or cover; I reverse positions. If I think that an asset will increase in value, I go long; decrease, short. Example: if I'm long 500 shares of IBM, and think it's going to plunge, I sell 1000. This closes my long position of 500 shares, and opens a short of 500. The point is that my stake is always working for me. I have a liquidation value, but I'm never out of the market, and so its hard to determine exactly what my earnings are--and hard to determine the Lord's cut. Maybe when I reverse a position, track how much profit I've made on the closing/covering part of the trade? But how do I work losses in? Perhaps liquidate 10% of my paper profits at the end of the month? This presents an accounting problem. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thx, Keith
When you are forced to transfer money from your trading account to your checking account to pay the IRS you should also transfer a little to your chosen charity (and a little to the retirement account wouldn't hurt.)
I've decided to withdraw an extra 10% for the Lord on every transfer out of my investment account. Mathematically speaking, I simply divide the amount needed by 0.9. For example, today I needed about $2000 to pay some bills. I divide by 0.9, and come to a total withdrawal amount of $2222. Then I can give 10%, or $222, to the Lord, and have the $2000 that I need for rent, utilities, food and stuff.
Here's my view on 'tithing' DON"T GIVE ANY MONEY TO ANY CHURCH EVER. Churches are bull shit organizations headed by a chief bull shit artist whose purpose is to get a few of your hard earned dollars for no work. If you want to give to charity give to a homeless shelter or a hospice for cancer patients and let the local 'pastor' go out and get a job...if he can...probably he can't because he has nothing to contribute. Take your '10% for the lord' out to the track and bet on a horse...a much better use.
I'm sure your heart is in the right place, but try not to lose sight of the fact that this stuff was dreamed up by goat herders during the Bronze Age.
Meaningless gobbledygook. Solomon, if he existed at all, lived over 3000 years ago. If that's the best you can do for advice you're in bad shape. I'll give you something more contemporary: Save your money and don't waste it on useless charlatans and snake oil salesmen. Me... Just now.
Priestcraft is about controlling the largest number of people with the smallest force (police force, military force). It's similar to statecraft except that priestcraft uses more psychological warfare with the introduction of the concept of god to the equation. Give to "the Lord"? This is a euphemism for something else. Exactly WHO does the proverbs writer (Solomon?) expect you to give the cut to? If to the king's coffers, then Solomon was engaged in priestcraft, invoking the name of the Lord to supply the state. Usually the priests tell you to give to priests, and kings tell you to give to kings. It gets confusing because it is, after all, psychological warfare. As a general rule, states have a larger force (police, FBI, military, courts, marshals) to collect funds. Priests have the smallest forces, and so, is the preferred method of warfare when it comes to collecting unearned funds, as it is most efficient. It is so efficient that minds can still respond to (be controlled by) old priestcraft recorded in dusty old books, despite a gap of a few thousand years, and an unknown author. Once you understand that states and temples are businesses, the control on your mind is loosened...unless you still overly value their paltry product: some kind of salvation. A study of temples should show they have too often been a hub of deception, administered by a small privileged class. You could do better by thinking more directly about how you would like your money to be used in the interest of charity, and direct your funds more directly to that cause. Else you increase the risk you will waste your funds on the all-too-common practice of CHARITY FRAUD.
I usually prefer to refrain from telling people how to use their money. Nowdays, I have seen so much cash being wasted that I will suggest to you this: send to these free 10 days retreats those in difficulties ( financial, psychological, behavioral, spiritual, etc) and specifically the crooks, the psychopaths, the psychologically "unbalanced". You might also send there any person that annoys you, that you hate, well anybody who can be "improved". Go even the way of paying them to do it . Make it easy for them to do it. From the 120 people I have now sent there over the last 3 years, at least a third have turned their lives around positively from themselves: dhamma.org That's the best use of "charity" money you can do. If you have doubts, start with the "worst" people from whatever place you can think of, and check the effects of these retreats. and and
