I’m seriously considering focusing only on QQQ. I trade options and I’ve done really well with QQQ. Not so great with SPY for whatever reason. This would be really focused for me instead of being all over the place with all the different stocks that I identify on a daily basis. Is anybody doing this? What have you experienced?
Personally, I'd suggest "highly focused". You can learn to trade very effectively only a few*/one issue... like one of the SPs or Nas. Years ago I read a clip about some guy who "trades only the ES... and has only a couple of losing days/year." I can believe that because my experience has been similar. For most people, "trying to trade everything/too many issues" leaves you with divided attention and missed trades... so that you have difficulty overall. *If you're going to "trade a few" instead of just one, I'd suggest considering crude oil, gold, and stock index.
Should be good. Every instrument has its own quirk. It's even better if the methodology you use works on other instruments in the same asset classes.
You're in luck. In case you haven't heard me say this before... "Price TA works in all markets and in all time frames".
Don't be surprised that there are profitable traders use methodology that only works on instruments in the same category e.g. stock index (ym/es/nq), grain (zs/zl/zc). I left that path though.
"They" may have a methodology that seems to work "market specific". However, it's fact that Price TA is universal in ALL MARKETS AND IN ALL TIME FRAMES. So if you want to learn how to trade, suggest learning Price TA.... which reveals buying and selling, regardless of the market.... and in all time frames... daily, hourly, 10-min chart?... all the same.
Some of them use pure chart and some use pure chart + order flow. The reason I left that path is the methodology seems to not robust and at the mercy of >= daily timeframe market condition.
