Poorly-worded poll. That is why I voted zero. You can make +50,000K one year, -100,000K next year, and +50,000 the next. Net zero after 3 years.
Hi Overnight, thanks for the reply. I was hoping just to find out how much someone's best year was. I understand that $ can fluctuate greatly.
Well, my best year was right at $50,000 at beginning of 2018. I proceeded to mess it up, and I am still trying to recover the loss. It has been difficult.
Dang, sorry to hear, man. What do you think happened? Did you change up anything? What instrument(s) are you trading?
Market behavior changed, and I did not keep to my plan. Don't worry about me, I'm a one-off weirdo. You should speak to the more successful traders here, who know how to properly hedge. Look in the options forum.
A trader taking wild risks can have a big year or two, problem is they go bust inside of 5 years from betting the farm on their trades. A better metric is a 5 year cume ROR with worst draw down. Being sustainable is far more important than a single year of profits.
It depends on how much capital you start with, and what do you trade. Hedge funds can make 5% to 50% (talking only about great years for them, as they can lose too). Traders also can make 5%-50%, but there are cases when some made 1000%, especially in penny stocks or bitcoin.
I'm not responding to the poll. Whatever I vote for, it can't help you: whatever you might reply, that won't help me: whatever the majority vote for, that can't help anyone. I might be tempted to vote in a % gains poll, but probably not.
Hello Michaelhepworth, I have been learning trading part time and trading for about 4 years, and have made $0.00. Overall I'm down -$7000 and many many many many hours invested.
