  1. Trump administration bows to South Korea desire to cancel planned joint training exercise

A planned training exercise involving U.S. B-52 bombers and South Korean planes was scrapped earlier this week after the South Korean government expressed concerns that it could generate tensions before a planned summit meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to U.S. officials.

The move follows repeated assertions by the Trump administration that it is keeping up a campaign of maximum economic and military pressure until North Korea gives up its nuclear-weapons programs and that the U.S. hasn’t changed the scope of its exercises.

But the South Koreans asked not to participate in what was intended to be a three-nation air drill involving the U.S., South Korea and Japan, the U.S. officials said. The U.S., which has sought to maintain political solidarity with Seoul during a turbulent period of diplomacy with North Korea, hasn’t commented publicly on the South Korean decision.

The Kim of the North wills it, and so Trump bends the knee.

Putin must be upset, Trump going down on his knees for other dictators and all.

  4. Another way to look at it might be this is an diplomatic gesture that says "We understand and respect your concerns and we value a peaceful relationship with you".

The payoff of a diplomatic resolution would be a worthwhile win for the United States, North Korea, Russia, China, and other regional powers because of economic opportunities created by trade agreements and geopolitical stability.

In a few years, China will obtain regional millitary supremacy anyway. Why not become friends and tackle some of the huge infrastructure needed for ocean energy and minerals as well as expensive space exploration together? It is inefficient to duplicate efforts with these massive projects.

As developing countries continue to develop, the United States stature and influence will more closely match its size and population in the future. It is critical for us to match our foreign policy to these realities before we get into a situation where we either miss out on opportunities based on cooperation or where we bite off more than we can chew militarily.

  5. The left would rather see a mushroom cloud over the Korean peninsula, than have Trump succeed. In all seriousness, that should give all sane and rational people great pause.

  6. Might want to read it a bit.

South Korea said they did not want to participate in the joint exercises.

So Trump actually responded to what our primary ally on the scene wanted - the country also being said allies country.

Also, participating in joint exercises is a bit difficult if the other party does not show up, eh?

But you and Tony Tard still get your North Korea Cheerleading trophies. It's what you do.

  7. Yes, some of these developments create the "risk" that the june talks will still occur. The dems dont want that, so they are having some heart burn here. If Kim suddenly launches a missile next week they would all be out on the front lawn at their house self-stimulating as the traffic goes by.

  8. "We will sacrifice to the last peasant and to the last public dollar in order to get rid of Trump" might appear to be an appropiate Leftist quote. However, when one looks at potential opportunities and long term geopolitical realities, better relations with North Korea is in everyone's best interest. My question is why wouldn't everyone be cheerleading this?

Even our defense contractors should not fear a peaceful resolution with North Korea because millitary contractor expertise and their other resources can be utilized in various huge multi-national capital projects like the ones I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread.

  9. It has been a tough week for the Democrats. Recent evidence appears to show global warming is in at least hiatus. The transportation part of the economy is accelerating on a weekly basis, Should North Korea and the United States reach an equitable treaty, Trump's political capital should rise. Trump's popularity, although still low, hit another 52 week high recently.

We all know about Trumps many issues. However, if he "wins" on this North Korean issue, we all win too.

Again, this is something we all should be rooting for as citizens of the world, regardless of political affiliation.
