ICE is deporting mothers and fathers who have committed no other crime than that of entering the US illegally, irrespective of the number of years they've been in this country (some of them 15, 20 years). An example: Do you agree with this? An alternative to deporting the "non-criminal" moms and dads could be to a. Make them pay a big fine for entering the US illegally b. Make them agree to rescind any access to welfare and/or citizenship c. Give them papers to bring them out of the shadows What say you?
A criminal is someone who commits an illegal act. So in fact, all these moms & dads are criminals. Of course most of these people can take their kids with them because most countries, if your parents are a citizen, you are a considered a citizen of that country too. I would prefer these criminals to go back... But... If you want to know what would make me agree to let them stay, well, first off, only moms & dads who have children that were born here and are older than 5 would get a chance to pay the fine. If the kids are younger than 5, the parents have to go back and they can leave the kid, or take it with them. The kid hasn't been here long enough to be "accustomed" to the American lifestyle and hasn't started school so it wouldn't be hurting them to send them back with their kids. If the kid is older than 5 and has started school, then the parents have to pay for all the education that their kids have already received to pay back taxpayers. If it costs 10k per year per child to educated them and they've been in school for 5 years....thats $50k they need to pay back before they can stay. They have 3 kids that have been to school 3, 5 and 8 years? $160k they need to pay back. You just have 1 kid and it just started Kindergarten? You get it easy...$10k only you lucky bastards(no we ain't gonna pro-rate for you because you're a criminal) Does that sound fair for the fine you were thinking about?
Peil, I think you've proposed a good idea, a compassionate one, if added to an overall reform package that includes a border wall, deportations of anyone with a criminal record (rape, murder, drunk driving, aggression etc), blocking welfare for all illegal immigrants (this country is already bankrupt, social security will be gone in a few years...) among other steps. But the idea of deporting a mother of father like Joel Colindres who has been here for 15-20 years, has not committed any crimes (outside of entering illegally 15-20 years back), with children, working and paying taxes, married to a citizen, that strikes me as a lack of compassion. The sad thing is, I bet you that cases like these are probably even that many in number. I'm hoping we can get to at least 10 votes on the poll.
I am opposed to the paying of fine. American citizenship is not a goddam commodity for sale. Same with all these stupid plans that both the Americans and Canadians have had or still have where if you invest a certain amount you can become a citizen. I hate all that shiite. Fortunately I think those programs are going away mostly as a result of abuse. Good riddance. It is a given that some will stay- most likely the daca kids. I would want their citizenship or legality to be provisional for a long, long, long time rather than some bullshiite thing where you pay a fine or do community service and then you are a citizen. But I would want to be able to deport them at any time for a felony or gang activity etc. For example, I heard about case near Seattle on the news today. Some woman was repeatedly raped, teeth knocked out, shows up disoriented at a neighbors with just a tank top on and one ear torn off. The guy they arrested- who allegedly blah, blah, blah- was fully registered as a daca immigrant. If convicted, I want him gone after he does his 30 years. And yes-absolutely- we have native born citizens who do that stuff, not just illegals but the constitution says we cant boot the citizen out and we can with the illegal. Otherwise, I would deport the citizen too. In a case like that one in Seattle- ideally- he would be executed and then deported but I digress.
There's nothing compassionate about his idea; all you are doing is adding yet another way that the US is destroying it's future by putting a price on citizenship, college education, health care that puts it out of reach for many people. So your nation gets older, less educated, and young people are put heavily in debt at a time when the US itself is heavily in debt. Baby boomers again selfishly screwing up the country for future generations. Illegals I have no problem with them being deported. Kids of illegals I'm not sure what's best but since your country is aging I think there is some merit to allowing most of the kids to stay if they are willing to leave their parents or wait until they are legal. A choice they can make with their parents. That's what a compassionate country does, not stick them with a huge debt.
What is a "non-criminal" illegal? Aren't people here illegally breaking the law, and thus criminal? What do they do in Mexico when you are found to be there illegally? What do they do in Canada? How about other countries? Is there a country out there who, when catching someone in illegal alien status, does not take action against the illegal resident? I mean, other than the United States.
If you put a large fine on them as a condition of being here legally, guess how lots of them will come up with the money.
Are we really debating whether people who manage to sneak in here and violate our laws should acquire some sort of immunity based on how long they have been able to do so? That of course is an amnesty. President Reagan was convinced to do it before and it turned out to be a monumental disaster, as future illegals were conditioned to believe they would get an amnesty too. So of course, even more came. Few illegals have not violated other laws, eg identity theft or tax evasion. And how many are on some form of welfare? At least the debate now acknowledges that they are a massive drain on our economy instead of being an asset as open borders propagandists have long claimed. Do you really want your social security and medicare being reduced to pay for illegal immigrants' vast needs?
Why would they pay it? They will just ignore it like they do the rest of our laws. Then the democrats and establishment republicans will have to come up with more excuses for letting them remain. Like the "alternatives" to a border wall, it is just a ruse to pretend to be tough while deferring any real action.
