Trump has installed a whopping 220% trade tariff on the Canadian firm Bombardier that makes component parts for aircraft. This is at the request of Boeing who are otherwise uncompetitive. The Irish firm that employs thousands will have to close the factory. Typical of Dump's tactics is to annoy the US's best allies. Then he has the gall to ask for help in defeating the US's enemies viz. North Korea, Russia, China, factions in the Middle East and now Mexico, Venezuela and many more. The UK pours in blood and money to help. Dump may find his appeals for sanction solidarity increasingly fall on less than willing ears. Our Mrs Poodle has finally found a bit of bark. Typical of the worst President yet ! Undoing decades of work and $trillions !!
This will be interesting to follow. Trudeau is pissed.... "We won’t do business with a company that’s busy trying to sue us and put our aerospace workers out of business,” the prime minister said. Wonder if the stock will move on this. Canada has Billions in deals with Boeing pending. https://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/canada-preparing-to-replace-its-cf-18-hornets-05739/ And then there's this guy lol: NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair.... “watching this government deal with Trump is like watching Bambi deal with Godzilla.” https://www.thestar.com/news/canada...per-cent-duty-on-canadas-bombardier-jets.html
Maybe the Brits will cancel the 4 new Trident submarines. That would save many billions on a fleet that wouldn't dare press the nuclear button and so is a total waste of money anyway. They could mend potholes and re-employ sufficient police, NHS staff etc. instead.
You should probably be more concerned with May and your politicians sabotaging the Brexit your country voted for - that's the bigger threat right now to your country. Or you can continue obsessing over our President, I suppose. Just remember, the fact that you consider him the worst President yet is irrelevant, as you don't get a vote over here.
Some of the politicians here are trying to stay in the trade market of the EU but not be burdened by the thousands of petty laws and an EU Supreme Court. I wish it was irrelevant but sadly that one man will affect billions especially if he continues with his present antics. I feel a bit sorry for you US guys that will have to endure the consequences. Can he be declared insane enough to impeach him before he overturns the apple cart ? Nixon jumped before he was pushed but I doubt Trump will be so generous. Maybe he thinks he is a reincarnation of .........Napoleon or Caesar maybe ? Think I will take the dog for a walk and calm down.
I think you should relax and take the dog out. It is very likely that Trump will not be re-elected, which means we've got another 3.3 years or so of him, and the last half of 2020 he won't be doing anything but tweeting as he tries to get re-elected. Even if he is re-elected because the Democrats completely botch up (again) who they put forth to challenge him, he's so isolated because he has alienated his base, and tried to chum up to folks that will never like him no batter what. He's a lot of bluster and not a lot of substance right now. Like a loud dog in a yard that will never escape it's fence.
Let's hope you are right. But it looks like war with North Korea as a kick off. OK so that's not his fault Kim must have had a lot of help ( from Russia ). I can't believe the NKs went from peasant farmers to nuclear power by themselves.
I don't think it comes to that, but if it does, the risk isn't the North Koreans. The risk is it spilling over to a broader involvement.
Have to get Russia and China onboard. Probably try bribing them with trade deals and removing sanctions.
Was talking with my brother last night about this. Basically Boeing sued because bombardier is subsidized and they are not, so no fair ( I call defense contracts defacto subsidies but whatever). The uk and Ireland already thinking of reneging on Euro fighter jets contracts (basically f35s from Boeing) as a sanction. Was not aware the courts had made the decision yet. Boeing does not have a small passenger plane like bombardier wants to introduce. My guess is, Boeing is in bully mode to either buy out or do a hostile take over of bombardier. Let them try that with China though. Let's see how this backfires on Boeing's international market. I guess they could just lobby for war if it comes to it. Let the trade wars begin
