Two dead as suspected Islamic State gunman takes hostages in France

At least two people were killed after a gunman claiming allegiance to the Islamic State group opened fire and took hostages at a supermarket in southwest France on Friday.

A security source said the two were killed in the attack at a Super U store in the town of Trebes.

Armed police were also responding to the earlier shooting of a policeman in the town of Carcassonne, 15 minutes drive away, which took place at around 11 am (1000 GMT).

It was unclear if the two incidents were linked.

In Trebes, a picturesque medieval town of around 5,000 people, the man “entered the Super U supermarket at around 11.15 am and shots were heard,” a source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

A witness reported he shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest) before going into the premises, the source added.

  2. Probably Karma for elements of France's government assisting in the killing of 800,000 - 1m in Rwanda and then helping the organisers to hide etc.

Oh that is right, there is no god. Can't be that.

The state security forces, as in Britain catch nearly all of the plots and discourage many others. They need to keep doing what they do pretty well. If they, the staff who are experts have ideas, develop the ideas.

My understanding is that the French legal system can detain people for a period of time without charges. In this situation - "The man is known to the intelligence services and flagged in a database of radicalised militants." Nearly all of the extremists who have committed terror in France are known to authorities and are on watch lists.

France should start by detaining every individual on their extremist watch list and questioning them for the maximum allowed period of time. Those who are deemed to be even slightly dangerous will move to the next step.

The next step is a federal executive order in France transporting all of the dangerous detained individuals to one of their remote colony islands -- where the extremists would not be allowed to leave. They are still in "France" legally. There have been previous suggestions that the top federal executive in France has the power to do this.

  5. Yeah, that is called internment. It has been done many times. Mixed results because we don't live in the imaginary world of an mentally dysfunctional American who makes a statement without expanding it to the actual world we live in.

Always really simple in the head for you GWB. They do detain and interview though, that is why there are so few attacks. I'll be in France in May, I'll pass on your suggestions.

That's why a terrorist could kill only 3, a high school student has an average much above that in the US. Last MAGA teenager managed to kill 17 with ease.

Only a fricken warped son of bitch would try to associate Muslims with conservatives in America. We believe in liberty, smaller govt and the freedom.

Muslims are smarter than exgoper they know which party is most likely to allow sharia to flourish.

Muslims in America are massively democrats in america.
They clearly don't identify with freedom and liberty.
They seem to prefer oppressive govt.
Which is why many settle in Illinois and California.

66% vote dem, 20 percent undecided (read dem but are private) and only 13 percent vote republican.
