A hitman or a loner? Looks like a hitman but it could be personal. He picked up an ebike using a phone.
I think he was CEO of UnitedHealthcare which is part of Unitedhealthgroup, of which he was an executive.
According to The Guardian, NYPD believes that it was a "targeted attack," and not "random act of violence." To me, it is extremely obvious that this is probably an aggrieved patient, or a family member of a patient who was denied coverage. To be clear, I am not condoning violence. But this is a symptom of a deeply dysfunctional health care system, in which the denial of coverage is a business model that is designed to increase profits, because the insurance companies know that patients will give up during the complex appeals process, or simply die before the process can play out. The comments made by his widow are comical, although I'm sure she did not mean it that way. As the wife of the CEO of one of the largest health insurance companies in the USA, I'm sure she never has to worry about denial of coverage. Even if her insurance policy denied coverage, she's rich enough that she can just pay up front and then sue the carrier. According to NBC, she said "There had been some threats,” she said. “Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him." She sounds blissfully unaware of just how many people would like to kill the CEO of their health insurance company. Guy needed better security.
The comments on YT are wild. Grudges from people, due uncovered surgeries etc. Some mentioned that on TikTok it's nuts, guessing, close to celebration. Guy made $24 mils recently and lived in Hilton. No wonders where envy comes from.
These two back to back statements basically contradict themselves and create tons of cognitive dissonance. If there are unequivocal Pareto improvements that can be made to the existing healthcare system, then they should be made... irrespective of how they might be implemented. IMHO, the violence should be condemned without any qualification. Only then can you start considering shortcomings in the healthcare system. The alternative is, obviously, under some circumstances you condone violence.
