What happened to QQQQ ?

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by maxima120, Feb 23, 2014.

  1. I just learnt that QQQQ became QQQ.. Well its fine with me. Dont trade stocks..

    However my understanding was always that QQQQ is tracking NDX (NASDAQ 100)..

    NDX today is 3900 ish and QQQ $90...

    I dont get it..

    NDX chart compared to the QQQ chart from 1999 to present.

    As you can see the QQQ (formally known as QQQQ) is tracking the NDX (NASDAQ 100). :)

  3. Its weird.. Every time i ask a question in stock section i got so fucked up answers. Like whatever is the gold and whoever knows the answer is the king..

    Whatever really

    QQQQ was changed to QQQ three years ago, and I thought the answer you received was perfectly clear. A tracking stock isn't going to be the same price as the index it's tracking (e.g., SPY, DIA). If you believe the answers you receive are "fucked up", try Google.

  5. The dbphoenix i knew at TL had much more agile perception.

    The question was how is it quoted. Plane and simple.. And pretty obvious.

    Re google. Whatever i need for futures and options i can find with one click.. Everything about shares is dagger and cloak..

    I did find the answer after fucking 20 min of wondering on the web.

    I didnt ask to resolve system of nonlinear equations. Just a basic info on a publicly traded instrument.

    Basic info: tracking stocks and whatever they track are not going to be the same price. As far as QQQ, just type in "QQQ". Seconds. If you "don't get" why they're not the same price, just go to the PowerShares site and I'm sure you'll find an acceptable explanation.

    If you were selling a financial product to Joe Public the retail trader which would be the easier sale? Something priced close to $3900.00 or $90.00?

    Does that answer your question?

    Great , accurate , bull market answer,LOL

    Actually my QQQ answer is similiar;
    easy buy about $20 area, old time bear market ,,not a prediction. Simply a LONG term trend notice.:cool:

    Something else strange has happened to QQQ[since 1990s];
    long term buy/sell volume is WAY down, especially compared to SPY[increased ]volume.Wisdom is profitable to direct

  9. Easier would be to quote $39.00.. However it wasnt question either..

    As I said the answer should be something along the line: dear fellow trader. the QQQ tracks not the NDX value but returns. And started to price at about 1/40 of the initial NDX value..

    I found this answer as I said through 20 min of intense googling on very irrelevant website (although trusted)...

    P.S. shouting things like google / wikipedia you friend is worst advice one ever can receive.. they are mostly your enemies because the information can easily turn into malinformation and even disinformation without you noticing it...

    QQQ could easily be trading at $39.00 today, but the powers to be picked a different value for the ETF when it was launched. My guess they wanted a price that wasn't too cheap or too expensive for the average trader.

    The marketing department would go with #2.

    1. Too cheap = Cheap product for someone on a tight budget.
    2. Priced right = Easy to sell to the average investor.
    3. Too expensive = Hard to sell to the average investor.

    When did I give you that advice?
