What moves the market on daily basis

Discussion in 'Trading' started by Stonker999, Feb 12, 2021.

  1. Hello,

I am looking for a list of factors that move the market on a daily basis and make it possible to predict the short term trend and movements of the market, so I can learn more about these factors and experience some success in day trading . To my knowledge there are the following factors:

Orderflow - market sentiment - news releases - trading groups flocking to same market - understanding big institutions - risk reversals and futures - some technical analysis and price patterns - risk on or risk off times.

Is there something I am missing?

I think that making a list of all factors would be a great first step in order to know where to begin. I wasted my time trying to learn useless knowledge like fundamental analysis, indicators etc. I know fundamental trading works but it does for a long term (months-years)

    Thanks for your help

  7. A few months ago it was the tweets of Donald Trump but it looks to me now it is Elon Musk who will be carrying the flag.

  8. I would add psychology. You're not the one making or losing money, the Market is paying you or taking your money for the decisions you make. The market is always right. It is your job to align your self to the market and trade on the right side of it, so the daily factors don't really matter so much in the long run...

What moves the market is buying and selling. That may sound simplistic, but you can't really go beyond that explanation. Trying to find cause and effect every day is a path to frustration and madness.

What underlies buying and selling decisions is of course psychology, but that is too difficult to discern consistently and not really needed. Just play the probabilities of an up move or a down move. However, people tend to want certainties, not probabilities. Sounds simple right?

Buyers taking liquidity and Sellers taking liquidity are what "moves" the markets.

in other words - Buyers lifting offers and Sellers hitting bids.
