Why do you enjoy trading?

  1. All and any responses are welcome.

  2. It's an intellectual challenge to try to make "cause and effect" sense of price action and the markets.

  3. Pays my bills without dealing with corporate america.

    Greetings All,

The following words, some from my own writings, and some from authors known and unknown, have been cobbled together by me, and most of them hang framed on my office walls. They provide me with strength and inspiration when the adverse Law of Averages occasionally catches up with my trading method. I hope these words below do for you, what they do for me.

"I enjoy my work because I chose it as a conscious act of my own free will. I’m secure in the knowledge that the only timetables, expectations, and deadlines that must be met are my own. Best of all, no one can ever take this type freedom from me, because it resides within me. I own it,...and for whatever that means,...it owns me as well. And in that regard,...we are one.”

"When you know, and you know that you know, your confidence changes what some people might deem as high risk, into a simple matter of probabilities. You have learned through the pass of pain, to train your rational mind to consistently execute a predefined systematic response, when your emotional mind may be trying to compel you into doing something else. You are the discipline, you are consistent,…you do not need to look outside of yourself to find them in any method, or in any person. You carry them with you,...wherever you are."

“I choose to trade, for every man who is truly his own man must learn to be alone in his thinking, in the midst of other men, and if need be, against the thinking of other men. I chose my work. And when the work, and the love of the work become one, I believe a man has experienced the greatest achievement of all; the acceptance of himself through the dignity of his labor. His work is truly his love being made visible.”

As a young Air Force Cadet, the words; "Fortune Favors The Bold", were posted above the doorway of our Cadet Lounge. I glanced up at them just about everyday as I entered to study. Who knew the impact they would have on my life at that moment, and even decades later. The words still resonate at my core today.

“Fortune Favors The Bold". For those who dare too little, there is a penalty which must and will be paid. While it is perhaps not as sudden as for those who dare too much, the penalty is equally as sure and certain. Life becomes dull, meaningless, and without purpose. Those who dare not become as insects or meat on the hoof; they exist, but they do not live life to its fullest. And if you are not living your life to its fullest, then why did your spirit incarnate flesh to come here? Ships in port are safe, but that is not what ships were built to do. So it is with men, the Lord gave you freedom of choice...now again,...at this very moment...regardless of circumstance,...choose to be Bold."

Freedom. It has allowed me to do whatever, wherever, whenever I care to go. It forced me to become more active in knowledge overall, I never really wanted to learn how to program, learned to read the stats, put in tons of hours. It's funny, all the backtesting through the years, simple remains the easiest and most profitable and most boring. I learned that boring is good. I like that after 35 years, there is always more to learn.

  10. challenge myself.

    the market is everyday unique.

not like working in an office setting, see those familar faces always almost at the same time, doing the same crap.

market may trend well today, but next day it bounces around like a drunk, you can not figure out what is going on.

each day I am wondering before the opening: what will this day?

I guess three situations: red bar, green bar, no where bar.

kind of gambling. only people have the nerve should play this game. so I move on with investor kind of trading. I almost quit day trading.

look at the big picture, ignore daily fluctations. that makes me easy. sometimes, I feel it is awesome since I can do many other fun things, while the market just keeps giving me money.

in other cases, I feel a little bit annoyed since the market suddenly changed course and did not notify me, put me into a wrong place.

the only thing makes me survive this game is BUY LOW and SELL HIGH. lots of time, I feel so happy those guys sold their shares, options so cheap, I just feel I defeat them: those are suckers, deserve it!

I like to buy when street is full of blood. I like to sell when everyone is talking about buy, and how great it is.

I hate trend following, often those guys betrayed me, and let me wonder, what is wrong I did?

the market keeps trying to teach me something, the greatest thing I feel is I can ignore their teaching and do what I should do.

I never try tolearn from the market, since I belive I am smarter than than teh market. over and over I ssee how dumb the market is, always they are wrong!
