travel isn't banned, you're fear mongering.

In light of the swine flu, the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning against any non-essential travel to Mexico. The move could potentially devastate an already struggling tourism industry in the country.

The World Health Organization urged countries not to restrict international travel or close borders, as such measures would not in themselves stem the outbreak.

So now the UN says quarantine doesn't work?

Seems they're encouraging outbreak by promoting open travel.

I work in an emergency dept in a major hospital. I was shocked at how seriously the docs and even the nurses where taking this. There was one pt there with a potential dx.

Truth be told, we don't know what we are dealing with. After witnessing SARS I would not give this short shrift. It is possible, that as we saw with the spanish flu....it may not be so severe right, but may return with a vengeance in the fall. Troubling also, that it hits younger people.

  4. Yes, that's the problem. It's impossible to know how bad it will be until the virus is circulated through the world population. It could be nothing to worry about or it could be the real deal. Hopefully it's minor and doesn't mutate into something even worse.

Guess how many deaths there are every year fom regular seasonal flu in the US...36,000. In the biggest city in the world, we have around 150 deaths...This whole swine thingy is a little overhyped for now

  6. Every time I have been abroad, I have always come back with cold-like symptons. Fear is going to spread quickly as many people come back with the common cold from these trips thinking that they are infected. It wont take long for this to turn into a nightmarish proportions.

Hilarious how many people haven't sussed out how the media work.

They broadcast hype that's based on the news.

Bird flu - where we were 'told' that it was odds-on that many people would die - hyped out of all proportion.

SARS - where we were 'told' that it was odds-on that many people would die - hyped out of all proportion.

    Pig flu - see a pattern here? It's a non-story.

PS> For those that have an ounce of intelligence get thinking abhout booking aMexico holiday, prices super cheap :)

you receive a failing grade in logic. pandemics have recurred through history.

if u are sure of your reasoning put your capital on the line. why don't u short the flu stocks and make enough for a lifetime of vacations

  9. exactly, and it is about time for the next one. this swine flu may not be it, but nobody knows right now.
