When Mr. Morgan bailed out the Street in 1907, it was the middle of a bear market and after a brief rally, the market continued to sell off for many months. Nobody knows if Henry Paulson's bailout will mark the bottom of the current bear market, but he undoubtedly saved a few large institutions.
